DOLLHOUSE Warning Signs, Book VI

I’ve noticed that I do too many posts fretting that some genre show may be in trouble (be it Pushing Daisies or Cupid or Dollhouse), and I’ll try to put a limit on those, because I don’t want to be a Nattering Nabob of Negativism (™Spiro Agnew). Still, I had to say something about the news that Dollhouse will be airing on Friday nights, aka The Death Slot. So far we’ve heard that the show replaced its pilot with a different episode, shut down production for a while to fix script problems, and now it’s going to be airing on Friday nights as a companion piece to a sci-fi genre show that isn’t doing so great. None of this means it won’t be a success, but even Firefly didn’t have this many warning signs going off before it premiered.

DOLLHOUSE Warning Signs, Book VI

  1. Are you suggesting the “Save Dollhouse” campaign should get going? Is this where we all send in a Barbie Dreamhome to Fox?

I’m looking forward to the new show, but I had the same reaction when I heard they were putting it on Friday night. Usually the place they put shows going to die. Although, interestingly, Ghost Whisperer is still on the air. Perhaps Fox is hoping to steal some of that audience?

  2. Let’s give credit to William Safire for his famous line rather than to his crooked boss Agnew.

  3. Speaking of Friday night sci-fi, I now think that “All Along the Watchtower” might warrant a mention in the thread about best use of a licensed song, but I am too lazy to go back and put it there.

  4. I will point out that my favourite show, Num3rs has survived three (four)? seasons at the 10pm Friday slot.

It doesn’t’ have to be death for a show.
