Via Dan Speerin, the most important story of all time may not have struck Ikea management as that important, since they’re used to having clothed animals in their stores. The Ikea mascot Mr. Moose hasn’t been seen in a while, but his overalls mark him as an animal of the people, an animal of the working class, unlike the pampered winter-jacket-wearing monkey.
Ikea also experimented with giving Mr. Moose a Swedish accent, which only went to prove that we Canadian Ikea shoppers don’t actually want to be reminded of the national origins of our favourite assemble-it-yourself furniture. There is no word on which accent is the “authentic” Mr. Moose accent, but at least he can talk. The monkey hasn’t said anything yet in any accent.
