Sun News Network: Hard News. Straight Talk. Short Skirts.

Levant probably figured the door would burst open to reveal two censors and an angry sheik, but nothing

Sun News Network launched yesterday with a half-hour “pre-game show” in which we were introduced to some of the on-air talent and their thighs. “They said it couldn’t be done and boy were they wrong,” anchor Krista Erickson declared – although to be fair, I’m pretty sure what they actually said was “It shouldn’t be done.” Still, it’s done now.

If you didn’t see the launch, you can watch some of the buildup while simultaneously watching this random guy watch it and talk over the national anthem for some reason:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sUYT4tr2txc

You’re probably thinking that an upstart news network would hire a bunch of dull, uncurious people and set them to work on stories that no one cares about. But not Sun News! Sun does things differently. Curious reporters! Stories people care about! Eat that, status quo. One reporter emphasized that she’d be interviewing people “in the middle” of the day’s big news stories, proving yet again that the mainstream networks get it wrong with their stubborn allegiance to News Gathering From the Distant Periphery.

Other apparent guiding philosophies of Sun News:

  • People in the West think differently from people in Toronto and Ottawa.
  • Free speech? Good.
  • Political correctness can suck it.

Pat Bolland, a broadcast veteran, is one of the Sun News personalities. He pledged that his new program, The Roundtable, which he’ll co-host with Alex Pierson and his moustache, would be a “breakfast show with bite.” That seemed to be description enough, but Bolland decided to elaborate – saying that, no, on second thought, actually the show would be more of a “western omelet” and their female correspondent in Calgary would be the “meat out west.” The Meat Out West: Always nice to get a nickname on your first day.

Another Sun News program was described as “rock and roll – no teleprompter… Sometimes you just have to throw the script out the window.” This is especially true in cases in which you can’t afford enough scriptwriters.

The employees of Sun News having sufficiently congratulated other employees of Sun News for being employees of Sun News, the pre-game show came to an end. There was Champagne and awkwardness.

SNN’s first programming day began seconds later at 5 p.m. ET, with the debut of Ezra Levant’s daily program, The Source. Here’s what happens on Levant’s show: He stands behind a lectern for 45 minutes and talks. Then he moves to a chair and talks. Then he gets back up. The production values are such that you spend most of the show wondering when Ezra’s Mom is going to call him up from the basement for dinner.

Levant devoted much of his first hour to wondering how long it would take for “the censors” to come and try to shut him down. His best guess was that it wouldn’t take too long, because he’s all controversial and opinionated and stuff. Nope, shouldn’t take that long at all. [Whistles idly, glances at door.] He seemed kind of let down that no one came to forcibly silence him. As a viewer, I can assure you I felt the same way.

Ezra’s show came off as a little canned, in that its focus drifted from an old story about the CRTC to an older story about CBC’s Vote Compass thingy to a five-year-old story about those Danish cartoons that depicted the prophet Muhammad. On tomorrow’s Source: the latest from the Ford Hunger March of 1932!

Levant, who years ago published the cartoons in his magazine, yesterday showed them on TV in the name of “freedom” – or, at the very least, in the name of freedom’s distant cousin, “desperately trying to generate some buzz on the first day of my new TV show.” (You’ll be shocked to discover that at least one news organization picked up the story and ran big with it.)

Ezra’s show ended at 6 o’clock, but weirdly he was back on TV just after 7 p.m. as a guest on another Sun show – The Caldwell Account with Theo Caldwell, whom viewers may know from his appearances on TVO’s The Agenda as well as his memorable turns in Sixteen Candles and Breakfast Club.

Is it considered a good sign that the third show ever aired by a news network needs to bring in as a guest the host of the first show ever aired by that network? Not to worry: Theo’s got a humdinger of sitdown interview coming with Jeb Bush later this week. Meanwhile, Ezra plugged his book about oil, telling Theo: “God gave oil to all the world’s bastards, except for us.” Levant probably figured for sure that the door would burst open to reveal two censors and an angry sheik, but nothing.

Caldwell has a signature line, which he repeated at least twice yesterday: “In the marketplace of ideas, you need buyers and sellers. That’s how you find the price of the truth.” I’m not sure that actually makes any sense, but I’m willing to put it on a poster alongside a kitten dangling from a tree branch and give it a shot.

Ezra’s show is about freedom. “We going to talk about freedom every day,” he said. Meanwhile, Theo said “the fundamental tenant of this program” is that “freedom is paramount.” Boy, I’d sure like to see those two get into it! And then, after telling everyone for some reason that he is heterosexual, Theo said: “Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, the Caldwell Account is open.” Felt a little forced.

His first topic was Libya. Theo and his guest agreed that Moammar Gadhafi is “one of the worst human beings on the face of the earth.”

•••

ALSO: There’s some good marketing as well as some terrific unintentional humour in the Sun promo reel, which has been on the website for a while now and aired yesterday during the pre-game show. But nothing beats the segment where Ezra – fresh off reading the Sun at his desk and looking up as though struck suddenly by profound thought – wanders out into the newsroom to talk loudly and gesture theatrically at some poor, defenceless colleague trapped in his cubicle. Do yourself a favour and watch. The Ezra bit is at 2:45 or so.

Sun News Network: Hard News. Straight Talk. Short Skirts.

  1. The fact that people in Toronto/Ottawa ridicule the notion that people in the West think differently than people in the east says it all.

    Jealous Feschuck ?

I don't see you starting an all Canadian 24/7 news network.

But hey that's fine, let's just make fun of the people who are actually out there doing stuff.

    Dissapointed Cats!!

    • I wasn't ridiculing the West/East thing at all. I lived in Alberta for years. I was, however, ridiculing Ezra for subjecting that poor guy to the full force of his opinion. If I'd had the time, I also may have mentioned that Ezra types the way I imagine a Muppet would type.

      • I'm jealous of his youthful blush.

        • Wait, that wasn't the Man Show? Cuz i just saw a clip of a bunch of ladies in short skirts drinking.

      • .
No way I'm going to watch that show until they bring in regular guest-appearances of Glen Beck and his blackboard. It's time he schooled us poor benighted closet pinkos in the ways of truth, justice, free-market, libertarian (and simultaneously conservative) values, the value of a gun, the threat of Mexicans, jihadists, and the fact that this Jack fellow looks like Lenin, and, and…
        .

    • After watching that four-and-a-half minute clip, it's hard to decide which part to be most jealous of.

(Okay, I lied, it's not. I'm most jealous of whoever got to cash a cheque for writing that theme music.)

    • I really doubt he's jealous, I mean how could he be? Just because somebody "does stuff" does not mean that it's immune from criticism or somehow worthy of unworthy praise. Let's scrap giving kids A's, B's and C's in school and just give them E's for "effort" and NE's for "no effort."

Man, it would be awesome to have you as a parent. It would be virtually impossible to disappoint you.

      • Visits from child and family services CATS!

        • LOL! Best Macleans commenter in-joke ever.

    • "…The fact that people in Toronto/Ottawa ridicule the notion that people in the West think differently than people in the east says it all…"

Oh for pete's sakes. How many purposeful divides are we going to create for ourselves, or should I say excuses to disregard each other's opinions with extreme prejudice?

West-east, north-south, ethnic, religious, linguistic, political yada yada yada

This network is just trying to make a buck off controversy, and to do that they need to create as much of it as possible.

I would consider it laughably pathetic if it didn't sucker in so many honest people with its exagerated nonsense.

      • You're just like my neighbour. He just doesn't get how people on this side of the street think. I tell him to try living here for a few years first. Maybe then he could criticise all those by-laws I want passed.

    • Hey you know the big political difference between the West and Toronto/Ottawa/Montreal? Us Liberal elites believe in global warming. Hope you don't scrape your knuggles too much as we drag you into the next century

    • I accidentally clicked into Sun News to find two twenty-something kids babbling on. Their matching acne breakouts testified to the fact that they are (perhaps permanently) virgins and have little to say to the adults in the crowd. Their 'banter' was puerile and convinced me that if this is what Sun News has to offer then democracy can sleep quietly tonight and well into the future. What a stupid network.

    • .
I'm jealous of Feschuk's writing. I couldn't hold candle to his sun.

I have eye-trouble and listened to this piece on Apple's text-to-speech. It's a rare test of humour that the thing is still convulsively funny.
      .

    • I came here to find out if somebody a McLeans slagged the women on SunTV. Instead, I find this elitist, think-alike crap from a part of our eastern, lamestream media that I thought was different.

The lame justification for a shallow, rag of an opinion is "I lived in Calgary for years." Obviously, you didn't live here long enough to learn some manners.

My subscription will not be renewed. The last thing I am going to do is support more think-alike media in this dysfunctional country.

  4. That's what wanted must carry status??

    • That Ezra bit was…spectacular. Watch it without the sound. It looks more like a Colbert Report promo than a real one.

Also, with the sound off, you can focus on looking for the strings. Those hand movements can't be natural…

      • I watched it with the sound and it still felt like a Colbert Report promo…

        • You're right…it's fantatic without the sound. Ezra should consider doing it that way all the time. Funny as hell!
And how about all those stiletto hells? Scary!

    • This is why they feel they NEED must-carry status.

  5. That's what wanted must carry status??

  7. I'm jealous of his youthful blush.

  8. Not sure if enough people crossed their arms in that video. Pretty sure they needed to look tougher, say, maybe a dozen more people doing it. Maybe even back-to-back, staring down the 'average Canadian'…

    • They need to practise their "stern Colbert" crossed-arm look.

    • Perhaps they could get sunglasses and do the "CSI Miami" move.

      • The problem with all these media leftists is…

        ::sunglasses::

        they're never right.

        YEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

  9. Not sure if enough people crossed their arms in that video. Pretty sure they needed to look tougher, say, maybe a dozen more people doing it. Maybe even back-to-back, staring down the 'average Canadian'…

  10. That Guy in the first Video looks hot!

  11. We need a "fresh" perspective where the hemlines are higher than the IQ's.

  12. We need a "fresh" perspective where the hemlines are higher than the IQ's.

  13. Sounds like you got yourself a heapin' helpin' of TRUTH, Feschuk, and it blew your little liberal elitist brain! If you can't stand the heat of freedom, stay out of this all-Canadian kitchen. Woooo! YEAH!!!!

  14. Will do!

  15. Will do!

    • Woooooo! Freedom! Ezra! Blasphemous cartoons!! WOOOOOOOO!!!!

  16. Woooooo! Freedom! Ezra! Blasphemous cartoons!! WOOOOOOOO!!!!

  17. I'm the "random guy" in the video… thanks for ignoring the fact that I actually say my name in the video… the least you could've done was mention my name but I digress… like it or hate it, Sun News is here to stay and I'm excited to be part of history in the making and that's why I made the video…. it was to help promote the station but it was also to show my excitement in VLOG form…

    • Congrats on the new gig Antonio. It is great to see people truly passionate and excited about what they do. (Even if you are in fact super crazy excited.)

For those that don't know, Antonio is a highly influential Brazilian musician that recently immigrated to Canada. Check him out below:

      [youtube x2GDYP26mNc http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x2GDYP26mNc youtube]

      • umm this videos not of me… but thanks for the support

        • Nice try Antonio, but I tell the stories others won't!

          • ok… if you want to think that I'm the Brasilian musician then that's on you. But I'm not him.

          • Ok, I will report that you refuse to confirm the current allegations. However I think given the name and that the video clearly shows someone super crazy excited is pretty damming.

          • I Am the excited guy in the video above however, I am not the guy in the video you posted…. I am not a Brasilian musician..

          • I think you missed the irony here haha. Stewart is using the same tactics as the above network you think is changing history to draw a conclusion that everyone will uphold as true despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.

But seriously, where can I get a CD?

          • Except the Brasilian musician IS the excited guy in the video above. I'm so confused.

        • We've seen enough video of you already, Antonio. Or "Random Guy," as you will forever remain to me.

          • I'm ok with "Random Guy"… as long as people keep watching my videos, you can call me whatever you want… I just think they could've mentioned my name is all… at least now, more people know who I am…. whether they like me or not, I'm not going anywhere…

          • "I'm not going anywhere."

            Aint that the truth.

          • fast. There I finished your sentence for you.

          • "Not going anywhere" doesn't get any more compelling the more you say it. Well, yeah, unless you get kidnapped or clubbed to death or something, we don't expect you to magically vanish into thin air. We're merely hoping that obscurity engulfs you right where you make your stand. (And considering you can't dig up more than "I'm not going anywhere", I think we're likely to be pleased on that front.)

    • Antonio (or Random Guy, whatever you prefer). I don't wish to be a buzz kill, but no one is going to PAY for Sun News Network. Ok, ok, a few died in the wool, freedom lovin' partisans who want to hear themselves repeated back through the TV will. But, get serious, will ya? Quebecor is as tight as a firecracker up a frog's behind. The content you saw in the past day is the content. That's it, folks. I give them 18 months, 24 tops.

They've got a much better shot at making it if they ask people to pay for Ezra Levant and Brian Lilley to shut up. It's not like anyone's going to be watching the women on Sun News with the volume up anyway, so there may have to a new female strategy. Maybe they can make all the women rotate through the Sunshine Girl position and have them wearing on less article of clothing each day on TV! That might get a few subscriptions.

      Aside from that, it's Sundown.

      • watch it or not, I still do my job… but there are many out there who WILL watch and therefore, we will be a success… why do you feel you need to bring it down? if you don't like what we say, then watch any of the other channels out there…

        • Wait, are you the guy who did the soundtrack for the Sun News channel?

        • Why do I feel the need to bring it down?

I'll tell you why; because I'm a conservative, and the content of the programming is an insult to conservatives.

I want to bring it down in self-defence.

        • Because it makes serious conservatives look like mouth breathing idiots who nobody should listen to.

If THAT was supposed to be the voice of the right in Canada, then I'm going somewhere else.

    • Now I understand why you disrespected our national anthem by talking through it, you're actually Brazilian. Better not let your new network find out… They only hire people who are as Canadian as I am.

Nice dance video by the way.

    • Antonio, I loved your stage show, but your act needs to be more hard hitting and straight, maybe get some of the sunshine girls that work on SunTV as "anchors" to do some background dancing and booty shakes.

  19. Haha, I didn't even realize a concept like Sun TV would ever start in Canada. However, it is so ridiculous in its self promotion, that I am sure it will collapse on its own as people ignore it.

    • I don't know. Could become a Canadian classic like SCTV. The new mellonville!

      • Do people have to pay to subscribe to this channel?

    • "I am sure it will collapse on its own as people ignore it."

It will truly be the black hole of truth, then.

  20. Haha, I didn't even realize a concept like Sun TV would ever start in Canada. However, it is so ridiculous in its self promotion, that I am sure it will collapse on its own as people ignore it.

  21. It looks like the narrow-minded folks who only like their information from like-minded groups are going to be lashing out for a few weeks.

That`s OK. While you are making your smug, mildly amusing remarks from your conservative-elitist p.c. perch, I suspect the folks over at Sun TV are chuckling at your perfectly predictable reaction.

    • "While you are making your smug, mildly amusing remarks from your conservative-elitist p.c. perch" Huh?

      • Conservative-Elitist P.C. Perch – I think it's a brand of fish you can buy at Loblaws.

        • Yeah I saw Galen Weston serving it to some random people on a TV commercial. Pretty sure.

          • Were they Brazilian?

          • The background music was Brazilian — so hey, it was that Antonio Nobrega guy? If he's such a successful musician, why is he involved with SUN news?

          • I hope he didn't write their theme music, it's terrible.

      • perch—advantageous position

        p.c.—-politically correct

        elitist—only in your own mind

conservative—the traditional definition of conservative—you know—-the one you used to make fun off and now you are it. The new conservative probably works for the government ( or would like to— Feschuk ) votes for a big gov`t party like Lib or NDP, adores the CBC, and cannot stand the thought that there be any change in his life.
The very thought that the news would not be filtered through the CBC or MacLeans drives this beast to such distraction that their only reaction is derision.

        • If you have to claim that your news programming is factual, you've already failed as a news program.

    • I thought you said they were finally going to get their own network.

Hey, I wish them well as long as they don't start fabricating news out of whole cloth like their model down south.

    • Predictable? Yes, I suppose you are right. The folks that pay the bills at Sun Media must know the product is tripe and would garner an appropriately earned response in return. Will it improve? With Ezra and Theo on board, not likely.

I've said it elsewhere, the most creepy thing about Sun News Network is seeing an honest to goodness real journo like David Akin in the company of these other… caricatures. #CareerLimitingMoves

  24. Conservative-Elitist P.C. Perch – I think it's a brand of fish you can buy at Loblaws.

  25. I have to admit, after all the hype it was a bit of a letdown. I'm sure it will get better as the folks who work there find their feet, but now it simply looks like a bunch of print reporters doing TV.

    • I'll give them a few months to find their footing, content-wise. Every new channel needs to test what works and doesn't.

But I'm just shocked that they shot the whole thing in Standard Definition. Was it really that much more expensive to shoot the shows in HD? Especially since the logo and lower subheading was HD footage; it just made the contrast that much more stark.

      • Outfitting a TV station for HD costs $5 million, and for standard definition you can pick the cameras up second-hand for cheap.
And to be honest, most people look like hell in HD.
To get around it, you need a makeup artist who is good at airbrush application — so you've got to have 4 or 5 of them on every day for a network.
For standard definition, people can apply their own makeup and look good enough…

  26. Secondly, if SUN is going to prove itself it needs to focus on accuracy. Adler stated the Government was defeated on their budget. Not true, it was a (bogus) contempt motion. If you want to be seen as legitimate, at least get your facts right. If not, you're just the right-wing version of CBC.
We'll have to wait and see.

    • Ezra also compared the size of the Canadian government to the size of the California government (and the Canadian government was BIGGER! THE HORRORS! But anyway…). While the economy of Canada and California are similar, it's hard to compare the two governments, since their responsibilities could dramatically differ (like, California doesn't have to worry about running a military). That was my first quibble in my first five minutes of watching the show.

      • Truth be told, if Iggy gets his way, Canada wouldn’t have to worry about having a military either.

        • I think your definition of truth differs from our earth definition.

But probably not that of Sun News.

      • California also doesn't fund a universal health care system.

    • JamesHalifax, my opinion of you just shot up tremendously. Good points all around.

I was waiting to see the hook in the show. I think Akin's show will do alright, as he maintained a reasonable balance. Adler will probably do well, as he's managed to carry a radio show for quite some time. Lilley surprised me, even if he only ranted on CBC issues most of the time, as he could do really well with a couple writers supporting him; he has a decent voice and presence for television.

Levant has always been a counterpoint, and I'm not certain at all if he can actually facilitate a show. A full hour every day might just be too much for him. We'll see, I suppose.

      • Noob,I made the points knowing that the folks at SUNTV will be reading about their performance. My points were offering them advice. I hope they work out the bugs and become a permanent addition to Canadian media. We need the balance.
I want a channel that offers an opinion other than those offered by CBC or CTV. I do however, demand that they report honestly and not rely on gimmicks.

        • Lastly, they need to focus and not try to cover every topic every day.
Good luck SUNTV……..and don't mind the comments about breasts or short skirts. I'm a fan of both.

        • I don't disagree in the slightest, JamesHalifax, and I really do wish them the best. There is a difference between reporting honestly (even with a slight bias) and running a tabloid show. The former might gain a reputation as a reputable supplier of news, while the latter will never rise above the level of entertainment. And there aren't that many in Canada who would pay for that kind of entertainment.

          • Hey, I'd love a tabloid news channel.

            But this isn't tabloid. It's self-parody.

        • I too thought your post was well reasoned, but you're a bit niave if you think factual reporting will HELP a far right news station.

  27. I have to admit, after all the hype it was a bit of a letdown. I'm sure it will get better as the folks who work there find their feet, but now it simply looks like a bunch of print reporters doing TV.

  29. They need to practise their "stern Colbert" crossed-arm look.

  30. I caught up with Ezra at the local Stanley Mikita's donought shop after yesterday's show and assured me that his mom has promised not to issue the dinner call until 6:15 just in case the show runs a bit long.

So he's got that going for him.

The very thought that the news would not be filtered through the CBC or MacLeans drives this beast to such distraction that their only reaction is derision.

  34. I watched parts of a few shows and was not all that impressed with any of them. My impression was that hosts have massive chips on their shoulders and they will need to tone that down. Also talked about America a lot, what was going on in America and I thought I was watching Canadian news station.

If station is focusing on right wing news, there might be a lot of focus on America because our supposed right wing party is fairly socialist, just less socialist than the other socialist parties.

And I am pretty sure that I saw T Caldwell as guest and he was talking up D Trump. Trump is not to be taken seriously and anyone who likes Trump should not be taken seriously either.

    • Theo referred to Trump as "pretty articulate."

      • I am not sure if you are kidding or not.

I follow American politics and am trying my best to ignore Trump but I could not last week because Donald was talking about his stellar relationship with "the blacks" and how they will vote for him over Obama.

I think it was Cosh who pointed out Trump has gone bankrupt twice while running casinos. What kind of numpty bankrupts himself while owner of Casino? How is that even possible!

        • I wasn't kidding. He and his guest seemed to be trying to talk themselves into Trump making sense as the Republican nominee.

          • Did he say "pretty articulate" or "pretty, articulate?"

            Swoon.

      • Is this a stealth satire channel? Like a 24/7 Colbert report except where the comedians are good at staying in character?

        • That's funny. For the last while some of the posters on here even, have sounded almost Colbert- like….unintentional satire…is there even such a thing?

          • Ha, satire of satire. The mind boggles. Then again, have you seen harper's wrapped in a flag ads? Snowbirds swooping; flags a-waving; Olympians — I expected to see Miley Cyrus hug him!

          • I change the channel whenever a political ad comes on. They get right on my nerves.

    • Oh I like Trump.. as an entertainer.

  36. Theo referred to Trump as "pretty articulate."

  37. My favourite bit was Charles Adler exposing the evils of communism in Cuba. His guest was a radio guy who had been to Cuba "a few times" — not as journalist, mind you, but as a tourist. Sometime during the interview, the radio guy actually said, "Well, I'm no expert on Cuba or anything …". Priceless.

It'll be fun to see if Sun News Network will cover any political or economic stories from THIS century.

    • "….political or economic stories from THIS century."

Presumably they were talking about Cuba because he resigned yesterday and his brother was talking about term limits.

Are you watching news from this century yourself?

"Fidel Castro resigns as first secretary of Cuba's Communist Party just as his brother, Raul, prepares to liberalize the country.
Fidel Castro formally resigned as first secretary of Cuba's Communist Party, a position he has held for more than 50 years, and handed power over to his younger brother, Raul, who has promised more economic and democratic freedoms for the Caribbean island." The Mark, Apr 19 2011

      • Uh, my point was tongue-in-cheek.

As for Cuba, there's a lot more capitalism than Communism taking place there today. Just ask all of the German and Spanish and Canadian companies building there.

        • No thanks, I'll just ask some dude who has visited

          • Just visiting! He's not here for you!

  39. Truth be told, if Iggy gets his way, Canada wouldn’t have to worry about having a military either.

  40. I am not sure if you are kidding or not.

  41. You know, it's a little tough to take the whole "we need SUN TV because the CBC is biased" line when SUN TV runs straight in to hire the journalists they got ditched from the CBC for, er, seemingly being biased.

    • You mean for not bieng liberal enough idiot. I wont deny it, Sun TV has a conservative bias, but almost every other network is for left biased… Come on lets be fair.

      • A)Let's play nice. We can disagree without being disagreeable.

B)You don't seem to have understood my comment. No, I mean that the CPC asked for Krista Erickson of the CBC to be fired for acting in a seemingly biased manner. The CBC then took her off front-line journalism, hurting her career. But Ottawa was abuzz that she was never biased but rather a bit sloppy, and indeed had links to the CPC, except that it was an opening for the CPC to make valuable hay about how terribly biased the CBC was. Now she's front and centre in the new SUN TV.

So, colour me unimpressed with the whole thing. Irony is obviously lost on these folks. But SUN TV can keep Ezra Levant, Earl McRae, some guy from the Agenda, Krista Erickson, and Stephane Dion's videographer. Sounds like a formula for success to me!

      • What you really mean is you want people to tell you what you want to hear and call it "news", and accuracy be damned. That's what "they're biased!!!!!" always really means.

        • Yes, a careful reading of my comment reveals that's exactly all I meant.

  42. You know, it's a little tough to take the whole "we need SUN TV because the CBC is biased" line when SUN TV runs straight in to hire the journalists they got ditched from the CBC for, er, seemingly being biased.

  43. I wasn't kidding. He and his guest seemed to be trying to talk themselves into Trump making sense as the Republican nominee.

  44. Scott Feschuk has the done the nation a great service here. Many of us (okay, for sure at least one of us) were wondering how we'd be able to laugh at Ezra at least once without subscribing to SUNTV and without making friends with people who would subscribe to SUNTV so we could just casually show up at their house around 5 and suggest they turn on the television.

Thank you for taking that desperate measure off my things I might have to do list! You're a great Canadian.

    Freedom!

  47. I thought you said they were finally going to get their own network.

Hey, I wish them well as long as they don't start fabricating news out of whole cloth like their model down south.

  48. Congrats on the new gig Antonio.

  49. California also doesn't fund a universal health care system.

  50. Is this a stealth satire channel? Like a 24/7 Colbert report except where the comedians are good at staying in character?

  51. I liked hearing things I don't normally hear but are out there & valid. I didn't like the Sun people interviewing Sun people — CBC does that, and media should be the channel, not the source. Kinda interesting seeing print journalists doing tv.

    Good luck, Sun News.

    • If the whole point of SNN is to be a counterpoint that you tune into for 5 minutes a day to get your 'fix', they'll die a quick death.

If that's their entire raison d'etre, they might as well have just syndicated a couple of shows and sold them to more established networks. It would have been cheaper and more effective.

  53. That's funny. For the last while some of the posters on here even, have sounded almost Colbert- like….unintentional satire…is there even such a thing?

  54. umm this videos not of me… but thanks for the support

  55. I don't know. Could become a Canadian classic like SCTV. The new mellonville!

  56. Nice try Antonio, but I tell the stories others won't!

  57. It's just a tabloid like the "news paper" The more controversial they get the more desperate they look, here's an idea report accurately on they news and stop trying to get attention like a 5 year old.

  58. It's just a tabloid like the "news paper" The more controversial they get the more desperate they look, here's an idea report accurately on they news and stop trying to get attention like a 5 year old.

  59. We've seen enough video of you already, Antonio. Or "Random Guy," as you will forever remain to me.

  60. I really doubt he's jealous, I mean how could he be? Just because somebody "does stuff" does not mean that it's immune from criticism or somehow worthy of unworthy praise. Let's scrap giving kids A's, B's and C's in school and just give them E's for "effort" and NE's for "no effort."

Man, it would be awesome to have you as a parent. It would be virtually impossible to disappoint you.

  61. Ha, satire of satire. The mind boggles. Then again, have you seen harper's wrapped in a flag ads? Snowbirds swooping; flags a-waving; Olympians — I expected to see Miley Cyrus hug him!

  62. Sun promo: we bring you the stories no one else will touch….from coast 2 coast. We lower the bar; & you'll love us on 2 out of 3 coasts.

What about the Cuban expert who really wasn't?

Adler: Would you like me to tell you now why you're here as an expert on Cuba. Buddy nods with great relief. Adler: because you've been there; you love food and wine and you spend lots and lots of money. Now lets discuss the lack of toothpaste and the ultimate advent of democracy. High camp.

Was the busty hooker the hard news or the opinion segment of the show? What is it about conservatives and their strippers, hookers and assorted biker chicks?!

Stories no one else will touch. Says it all. We enjoyed the giggle but won't be viewers. We don't gawk at car crashes either.

    • Another one not interested in hearing rhe complete story, only the CBC version.

      • Jenahlin –

I'm not interested in the network because I have a low tolerance for one sided, simplistic, imbalanced, bellicose nonsense. (A description sadly reminiscent of your own comment.)

I have no idea why you're ranting about CBC. I don't need a TV network to tell me what to think. Seemingly, unlike your good self, my opinions are my own.

I really didn't hear anything one could characterize as "complete " in any of the broadcasting. I found impartiality, and professionalism clearly wanting. Levant's contributions were particularly loathsome, and very juvenile, as he positioned himself as protector of freedom. Is it a bird? is it a plane? No, by George, it's SuperVile!

I might consider a revisit if they ever do put on their big boy pants & give us a "complete picture", but I think that outcome highly unlikely. The ethos is just not there.

      • Which part is the "the complete story", the non-expert or the busty hooker?

I wonder what it's like out there in la la land where the whole world is out to get you through evil TV news reports.

        • Tridus – I don't believe anyone in the world is out to get me but it seems a concept with which you are readily familiar. And regrettably, it may be true. What exactly is la la land? A place where bitter, aggressive illiterates don't lurk?

Why not try expressing a reasoned opinion next time? As in: "I really didn't hear anything one could characterize as "complete " in ANY of the broadcasting. I found impartiality, and professionalism clearly wanting." TraLa Kerry

  64. That Ezra bit was…spectacular. Watch it without the sound. It looks more like a Colbert Report promo than a real one.

Also, with the sound off, you can focus on looking for the strings. Those hand movements can't be natural…

  65. Hopefully they get a better groove going as they go.because right now, the content and production value is more reminescent of the onion than fox.

    • Bite your tongue! The Onion looks and sounds very professional.

  66. Almost forgot…

Theo Caldwell. Hmm…..please Theo, there is already one Glenn Beck. And that is already one too many.

tone it down, and just speak normally.

    • Maybe we'll get lucky and Sun News Network will woo Glenn Beck over here. We can only hope and pray!!

      • OH yes, we CAN only hope so. Sun's license will be pulled in about two shows. We have broadcast standards in Canada that actually say you can't lie. Beck can't go two minutes without lying. We'll see if the rest of them can stick with the truth without Glenn Beck.

        • Looks like the laws are never enforced, proven by the fact the MSM are still in business

          • That tinfoil helps with reception, does it?

  69. Did he say "pretty articulate" or "pretty, articulate?"

    Swoon.

  70. Wait, that wasn't the Man Show? Cuz i just saw a clip of a bunch of ladies in short skirts drinking.

  71. Jeez—What a bunch of snobs around here today—I don`t expect you to give this new network 1 Billion Dollars of public funding a year for forty years but you could at least give them a week before you pass judgment.

All this pompous attitude about production values and the look on Ezra`s face makes you all look so desperate and petty.

Or you could continue to stare at Mansbridge and Lloyd with their interpretation of the news. For me I think I will like the straight talk and the short skirts unless, of course Ezra goes for the short skirts too.

    • That's the "liberal elite media" for you. I, for one, appreciate a new choice in TV news and will be giving Sun News Network a chance.

    • "desperate and petty" pretty much sums me up.

"straight talk and short skirts" haha, so that is meant to make you sound what, intellectually demanding and manly/studly?

      • I don`t know what that expression would make one sound like. Ask Feschuk—it comes from the title of this post.

    • Smartassery aside, there have been concerns expressed about the quality of the show from all sides so far. It's not just us smug lefties.

      • It`s been one lousy day guys—get back to me in a couple months.

        • That's not how TV works. You have to make people like it if you want them to watch — pull them in, compell them to watch. So one lousy day, especially the launch day, does not bode well for encouraging viewers.

Although clearly some partisans here think they will watch bad TV if it's singing their song. Weird but all right with me.

          • Well, you are a partisan and I`m sure the folks at Sun TV know that you are not their target audience, so get over it and go watch some taxpayer-funded TV.

          • The partisans ARE their target audience. Both sides, really. How many folks listen to beck and Limbaugh and watch Bill OReilly down south that aren't conservative? Lots. Why? Because they're fun to mock. The smart marketers know their audience.

          • "Although clearly some partisans here think they will watch bad TV if it's singing their song. Weird but all right with me."

Well that explains the profitability of he Toronto Maple Leafs

          • Zing!

    • "All this pompous attitude about production values"

This channel is portending to be a viable replacement for other mainstream news services, and I'd imagine that they should have at least one professional on staff who knows what they're doing there.

As I said last night, the quality of the first broadcast was equivalent to Stephane Dion's election 2008 video. I've made better wedding videos. There's simply no excuse for that.

      • Another snob?

        • I've said nothing about their content, Jenahlin, and quite frankly I'd give them lots of leeway in that regard. It took RoBTV (BNN) a few years to really get their content down to the point that it became successful.

But BNN actually *looked* like a national business news television station right out of the gate, even if the programming wasn't refined. SNN *looked* like a cheesy cable access show, and there's really no excuse.

I suppose that makes me a snob. I prefer to think of it as constructive criticism, as I'm sure Kory and others are eagerly devouring the online reaction. Hopefully someone will catch my (and a few others) suggestion that SNN clean up their video so it doesn't look so terribly amateurish.

          • But they might have to hire some real artists! And pay them!

          • Are you sure that's how capitalism works, pinko?

          • But BNN actually *looked* like a national business news television station right out of the gate

That is a good point. Having been interested in a Canadian perspective on news, I have followed BNN from practically the outset. They did, in fact, have some serious growing pains, but I never felt it was a let down in terms of business reporting (though it would be nice to take some of the CEOs to task on their poor performance from time to time). After many schedule changes and content renewals, their viewership started to increase quite dramatically because their content is quite comprehensive.

What I was surprised to see is Pat Bolland. He left BNN supposedly because he was going to sit on a board of large company or charity. It was sort of ironic seeing him there only to have the promo bash BNN along with other outlets (but I suppose they had to throw in BNN as it is now owned by CTV Globemedia, I think).

        • it's called "doing a job right" and has more to do with self-respect than snobbery.

        • If by "snob" you really mean "expects a TV channel that wants my subscription money to have the slightest idea at how to film TV correctly", then yes.

In the real world we don't call that snobbery, we call it the free market. Funny, SNN was supposed to be all about that. Maybe it's time to go back to the CRTC and cry for mandatory government forced subscriptions again?

  72. Jeez—What a bunch of snobs around here today—I don`t expect you to give this new network 1 Billion Dollars of public funding a year for forty years but you could at least give them a week before you pass judgment.

  74. It's a lefty plot to keep Feschuk in material.

And as Ezra gets more and more desperate for attention, let's hope he doesn't try to descend into actual hate speech (you know he's gotta be weighing the threat of a $2k fine against the number of unsold boxes of his book sitting in his Mom's garage).

      • No no, it's spelled E z r a.

      • Is she the one with with the blue miniskirt? Or the one in the red?

  76. ok… if you want to think that I'm the Brasilian musician then that's on you. But I'm not him.

  77. I'm ok with "Random Guy"… as long as people keep watching my videos, you can call me whatever you want… I just think they could've mentioned my name is all… at least now, more people know who I am…. whether they like me or not, I'm not going anywhere…

  78. Did not watch anything yesterday, but I did tune in this morning. As others have mentioned, are we sure that this is not SCTV II?
The vibe I got was of desperation. Every 5 minutes, there was reminder of just how bad ass things were going to get, and I just kept waiting for the delivery, only to be disappointed. I turned it off, not because I could not handle the truth, but because I was so bored of seeing the same self promotional commercials. I'll admit, basing an opinion on the morning side of things is not balanced, but talk about a lousy first impression. For crying out loud – why have commercials so often (every 5 minutes) when they are so repetitive, unless you are dying to fill air time. Even worse, the morning program hosts keep repeating over and over the same message that the self promotional commercials deliver. This has to be a parody…

    • That's what they're missing… Guy Caballero. He'd get things on the right track.

      • "Coming after Adler, the Guy with the Snake on His Face".

    • When my boyfriend showed me the trailer, I honestly thought it was a parody. Sigh.

      • "populist, irreverent and close to our viewers"

That's when I had to check to see who posted the video, because I wondered if it was possibly a joke. How can you be close to your viewers when you don't HAVE any yet?

  80. That's the "liberal elite media" for you. I, for one, appreciate a new choice in TV news and will be giving Sun News Network a chance.

  81. Maybe we'll get lucky and Sun News Network will woo Glenn Beck over here. We can only hope and pray!!

  82. Ok, I will report that you refuse to confirm the current allegations. However I think given the name and that the video clearly shows someone super crazy excited is pretty damming.

  83. Mouth-breather tv good. Ezra deep thinker good. CBC baaaad.

  84. Mouth-breather tv good. Ezra deep thinker good. CBC baaaad.

  85. ps to those presumed lefties you are thumbin down Antonio above, what can I say…oh yeah: grow up.

  86. Couple obsevations about our new news that is so “straight”.

    1) This type of news is biased and opinionated.

    2) This type of news pushes the propaganda of polarization.

I’ve already heard the ‘news’ anouncers gushing about their chosen political candidate and now they’re on about the CBC and the Mulroney opera. Talk about your manufacturing of news, just to take a dig at your competitor. What a lark. Whats that noise in between stories? Sounds, perhaps, like a squadron of F-35′s flying at supersonic speed.

You people out there, you know who you are, be careful with this stuff, one could get totally inculcated by the biased subjectivity of this type of entertainment. It has very little to do with news, nothing to do with journalism and very little regard for truth or freedom. Yikes! Coincidence that this channel launches before an election, perhaps?

  94. I dunno – the chip on the shoulder works for Fox News. It's a weird mix of aggressive self-congratulation with a permanent victim complex. They might just need to get the mix right.

Production values were horrible. Brian Lilley and his guest seemed to be wearing ash-grey makeup. It was like watching old people eat.

  95. I kept wondering where Ezra's blackboard was. I hear Glenn Beck may be out at Fox maybe he can get his.

  106. Best thing that ever happened to us. Thank you for being there for us Sun News. We need a media who will be open with us and allow us and you to tell the Truth to the country.

    • didn't watch it, did ya?

      • I've noticed quite a lot of support of the "The Nation REALLY Needs This" variety, but I'm not certain that will translate into eyeballs. SNN needs a large portion of the conservative base to choose the station as their first choice for news; just being supportive is like being a partisan without voting.

And what I saw shows that they're now where near supplanting any of the more mainstream news sources, so they'll be second fiddle for a while.

    • "tell the Truth to the country. "

No, Carol. “In the marketplace of ideas, you need buyers and sellers. That's how you find the price of the truth.” Don't tell it. sell it! Besides, it doesn't have to be true. Just plausible. Or nonsensical. Or something….

  108. It was ok…going to get better. Not sure why people like Feschuck are getting their backs up about this, more voices should be a good thing, unless of course your against more voices, which is probably what this is about. I want Kinsella to rip into the Cons, and, I want Levant ripping into the Liberals, but, seems a few chosen ones only want it one way.

    • but why stupid voices?

      • "No," I say, "I don't have anything against men. Just stupid men."

I want Kinsella to rip into the Cons, and, I want Levant ripping into the Liberals, but, seems a few chosen ones only want it one way.

  110. God gave oil to all the world's bastards, except for us.”

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't God give us oil too? I could have sworn that we're a net exporter of oil and the Americans' largest supplier. Ezra appears to be taking a cheap shot a God for not doing something that He actually did.

    • What he meant, I think, is that everyone who has God-given oil in this world is a bastard – except for us. God gave us oil and we're nice.

      • So as a reward, God gave us Sun News Network.

      • Sun TV certainly is bringing in a refreshing, no-holds barred view. For example, is it refreshing to know that Levant thinks that Americans, Brits, Norwegians and Mexicans, among others, are all bastards.

      • Jeez—-Fes is doing reading comprehension for you, LKO—are you well buddy ?

    • Actually, it was untold quadrillions of tonnes of dead animals and plant material that gave us oil. It's just that the worlds fanatics ending up living above it.

      • Considering where the bulk of the oil is in this country..

        ..spot on!

    • Ezra, seing as he is basically a lobbyist for the CPC, figured the best way to sell the population on the idea of the oil sands is to label them as "ethical oil": the big oil producing countries are all ruled by tyrannical, oppressive regimes. But in Canada, we're awesome.

  111. God gave oil to all the world%E2%80%99s bastards, except for us.”

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't God give us oil too? I could have sworn that we're a net exporter of oil and the Americans' largest supplier. Ezra appears to be taking a cheap shot a God for not doing something that He actually did.

  112. I'll give them a few months to find their footing, content-wise. Every new channel needs to test what works and doesn't.

But I'm just shocked that they shot the whole thing in Standard Definition. Was it really that much more expensive to shoot the shows in HD? Especially since the logo and lower subheading was HD footage; it just made the contrast that much more stark.

  113. God gave oil to all the world's bastards, except for us.”

  114. didn't watch it, did ya?

  115. but why stupid voices?

  116. JamesHalifax, my opinion of you just shot up tremendously.

  117. "I'm not going anywhere."

    Aint that the truth.

  118. Smartassery aside, there have been concerns expressed about the quality of the show from all sides so far. It's not just us smug lefties.

  119. I've noticed quite a lot of support of the "The Nation REALLY Needs This" variety, but I'm not certain that will translate into eyeballs. SNN needs a large portion of the conservative base to choose the station as their first choice for news; just being supportive is like being a partisan without voting.

And what I saw shows that they're now where near supplanting any of the more mainstream news sources, so they'll be second fiddle for a while.

  120. Hmmm Teabag TV….in a Coffee Party country.

  121. What he meant, I think, is that everyone who has God-given oil in this world is a bastard – except for us. God gave us oil and we're nice.

  122. Hmmm Teabag TV….in a Coffee Party country.

  123. If the whole point of SNN is to be a counterpoint that you tune into for 5 minutes a day to get your 'fix', they'll die a quick death.

If that's their entire raison d'etre, they might as well have just syndicated a couple of shows and sold them to more established networks. It would have been cheaper and more effective.

  125. When did Krista Erickson get the conborg implant?

    • Comes with dating Con MP's.

    • Around the same time she got her silicone ones.

  126. "All this pompous attitude about production values"

  127. Finally!!! It will be refreshing to watch a program that is not so politically correct. I mean, since when is it "illegal" to offend someone?
If the immigrants/refugees have a problem with it who cares?
No-one cares that I and many other Canadians are offended by the very people we graciously permitted entry.
While they are afforded all the benefits of this great country, they demand that we accept their barbaric cultures, their refusal to assimilate, and the in your face religion.
Why do we permit this? Why must my freedom be silenced over theirs.
I believe in immigration, just not from islamic countries. That seems to be the only immigrant we accept now, and is the most to unlikely accept Canadian culture and laws. We will see civil war here on our streets, unless we stand together and be more selective of those who come here. Canada is a free and open country, not a faceless, myogistic dark age society. That type of immigrant OFFENDS most Canadians. Whew, I said it out loud. Why am I shaking, as if I did wrong. See typically Canadian!!! Ban political correctness, let's take back our country.

    • Top five sources for immigrants are: China, India, Phillipine, United States and United Kingdom. Pakistan is the first 'muslim' country at six, followed by France at seven. The Muslim horde is in your imagination.

      • You're letting the facts get in the way of an uninformed, xenophobic and borderline racist rant.

We will have none of that here or on SunTV News, for that matter. Because the uninformed ranter is a folk hero and his egregious, ignorant opinions are symbols of our freedom.

The fact that they are clearly a symbol of the utter failure of our public school system to produce individuals capable of discerning fact from propaganda, make-believe and prejudice should not worry you at all. If it does, it clearly means that you are part of the "elite", latte-drinking, CBC-loving non-citizens who oppress the true and good citizens of Canada.

    • I get what you're saying, KS, but I wonder: what freedoms of yours are being silenced? What are you no longer able to do or say? You can still make your opinions heard, you just did.

If you don't like things that feel foreign to you, then say so, but don't go on about losing your freedom. You haven't.

      Feel better now.

    • Someone give this person a Sun show, stat!

    • Charles, save it for your TV show.

  133. A baby with a chronic illness, and a limp. And hairplugs.

  134. Feschuk, you don't get to attack anyone's credibility when he can't even spell someone's name right. A good journalist checks stuff like that. Don't know who Pat "Boland" is, but he doesn't host a show at Sun.

  135. I get what you're saying, KS, but I wonder: what freedoms of yours are being silenced? What are you no longer able to do or say? You can still make your opinions heard, you just did.

  136. Antonio (or Random Guy, whatever you prefer).

    • declare bankruptcy?

  141. Uh, my point was tongue-in-cheek.

As for Cuba, there's a lot more capitalism than Communism taking place there today. Just ask all of the German and Spanish and Canadian companies building there.

  142. Hey Random Guy, is Ezra in the basement with you? I'll be he's super excited about Sun TV too.

    P.S. – I lover Brazilian music.

  143. Why are you Liberal types so SCARE? You have had your points of view reported non stop for years and now a different view has you looking like a cornered criminal with all the discusting verbage. Poor poor you.

  144. It's… Douchebag News Network!

    Coming (too) soon!

  145. It's… Douchebag News Network!

    Coming (too) soon!

  146. OH yes, we CAN only hope so. Sun's license will be pulled in about two shows. We have broadcast standards in Canada that actually say you can't lie. Beck can't go two minutes without lying. We'll see if the rest of them can stick with the truth without Glenn Beck.

  147. BRAVO to Sun News. Off to a great start already , by outing the latest absolutely disgusting CBC fiasco – the CBC's funnelling of taxpayer money to the outrageous Mulroney Opera. If that wasn't bad enough in itself, they are also spending hundreds of thousands of OUR money, to prevent this information getting out to the public – this, of course is nothing new at the anti-conservative, anti-Conservative, and obsessed with anti-Harper CBC.
Please Sun News – as no other media will have the cojones to pursue this, it is up to you, on behalf of Canada, to do so. And it MUST be done during an election campaign, because this is just the kind of outrageous waste of taxpayer money, and outrageous BIAS of the liberal left CBC, that ALL Canadians need to know.

    • Send an email to Ezra. Maybe he'll read it aloud on TV!!!!1!!!1!

    • "the CBC's funnelling of taxpayer money to the outrageous Mulroney Opera" – what are you talking about? Rhombus Media and Alliance Films produced Mulroney the Opera, not the CBC, and it is released in theatre, NOT broadcast TV.

You are sadly misinformed, yet bombastic and opinionated… and a Sun News fan. Hmmm… could there be a connection?

    • I'm confused. If the CBC funded the Mulroney Opera, why is that wrong? Shouldn't the CBC be funding artistic ventures? I heard that Mulroney is quite a sympathetic character in the opera.

  149. "I believe in immigration, just not from Islamic countries"
Well Kay, you'd better let Jason Kenney know because he's pretty busy courting the Muslim vote.
And if the PMO wants Muslim votes, SunTv will not be saying anything anti-Islamic.

Will you think Sun is refreshing then? If you think Sun TV is going to say anything CLOSE to what you just spewed, you're just naive. They may think. But, they won't say it.

I personally think you're a hateful bigot. Whew! I said it out LOUD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  150. Running scared? They can't run. they're laughing too hard. Did you SEE it? Holy smokes.

  151. It must be good or wwe would not hear and see all the insidious sarcasm from the other media.
And lerss people means less cost. Look at CBC. People everywhere and they compalin about the POOR subsidy from long suffering Canadian Taxpayers.
Go SUNMEDIA. Wake up the rest. And why should we not show cartoons? Check out the CHarter of Rights and FREEDOMS fellas.

    • Yes, the one brought in by Trudeau. GO TRUDEAU. (P.S. Have you read the Charter of Rights and Freedoms? Well, there's this neat section about "reasonable limits" that has all sorts of implications! Woooooo!)

    • I refuse to believe that someone who writes like that has a PhD. At least not a real one.

  153. Yoinks! Fixed it. Thanks.

  154. So as a reward, God gave us Sun News Network.

  172. the sun, just like the paper,is irrelevant. Its a bad immitation of an american mouthpiece.

  173. I've said nothing about their content, Jenahlin, and quite frankly I'd give them lots of leeway in that regard.

  174. I don`t know what that expression would make one sound like. Ask Feschuk—it comes from the title of this post.

  175. fast. There I finished your sentence for you.

  176. It`s been one lousy day guys—get back to me in a couple months.

  177. Noob,I made the points knowing that the folks at SUNTV will be reading about their performance. My points were offering them advice. I hope they work out the bugs and become a permanent addition to Canadian media. We need the balance.
I want a channel that offers an opinion other than those offered by CBC or CTV. I do however, demand that they report honestly and not rely on gimmicks.

  178. Lastly, they need to focus and not try to cover every topic every day.
Good luck SUNTV……..and don't mind the comments about breasts or short skirts. I'm a fan of both.

  179. That's not how TV works. You have to make people like it if you want them to watch — pull them in, compell them to watch. So one lousy day, especially the launch day, does not bode well for encouraging viewers.

Although clearly some partisans here think they will watch bad TV if it's singing their song. Weird but all right with me.

  180. After a year in the planning, spinning and hype-ing, did they go for a big scoop, perhaps something juicy and anti-Iggy slipped to them by their masters in the PMO? Something to establish their news cred? Nope, the best they could do was have Ezra the Desperate Controversialist trot out his yellowing collection of anti-Muslim cartoons. Recycled faux controversy, next on Faux Noise North. Start the pool now on how long Peladeau bleeds cash to keep this virtual Viagra vanity project going.

  184. I don't disagree in the slightest, JamesHalifax, and I really do wish them the best. There is a difference between reporting honestly (even with a slight bias) and running a tabloid show. The former might gain a reputation as a reputable supplier of news, while the latter will never rise above the level of entertainment. And there aren't that many in Canada who would pay for that kind of entertainment.

  185. All praise freedom!

  186. All praise freedom!

  187. Don't you mean lamstream media?

  188. I think now SUNTV needs to do some "reality checks" on political ads.

Did Teneycke bully you and say your beautiful music is unpatriotic?

It's ok. Don't be scared, Charles Adler was born outside the country, too… he admitted it on air! He's an ethnic voter himself!

  203. Predictable? Yes, I suppose you are right. The folks that pay the bills at Sun Media must know the product is tripe and would garner an appropriately earned response in return. Will it improve? With Ezra and Theo on board, not likely.

I've said it elsewhere, the most creepy thing about Sun News Network is seeing an honest to goodness real journo like David Akin in the company of these other… caricatures. #CareerLimitingMoves

  204. I refuse to believe that someone who writes like that has a PhD. At least not a real one.

  208. The best way to raise awareness about bad service is to take it seriously.

It's hard not to laugh at Sun News, but all you're doing it reinforcing the stereotypes that they're catering to.

Of course, considering some of the responses it's hard to case to sell: you can be sure plenty of people will be eating this stuff up for the same reason that Fox News does well down south. People love being told what they think they know.

  209. But they might have to hire some real artists! And pay them!

  213. "Disgusting" verbage, thank you very much.

    • Disgusting verbiage.

      • Oh, snap! :)

  214. "Disgusting" verbage, thank you very much.

  215. Oh, I bet he gives it six months, at least.

Look how long the National Post bled red ink without being closed.

  216. Around the same time she got her silicone ones.

  217. Were they Brazilian?

  218. it's called "doing a job right" and has more to do with self-respect than snobbery.

  219. Nor have an arctic coastline, or anything to do with the UN.

  220. Bite your tongue! The Onion looks and sounds very professional.

  221. You had it for quite a while. It was called the Western Standard. Not our fault there's not enough of you guys to support such a thing here in Canada.

  223. Oh I like Trump.. as an entertainer.

  224. I think of it as Tough Love.

  225. "…The fact that people in Toronto/Ottawa ridicule the notion that people in the West think differently than people in the east says it all…"

  226. Considering where the bulk of the oil is in this country..

    ..spot on!

  227. "No," I say, "I don't have anything against men. Just stupid men."

    - Maggie Estep

  228. Ban political correctness? Okay.

    Get back in the kitchen.

  229. I refuse to believe that someone who writes "It must be good" actually watched any of it.

  230. Why are we so SCARE indeed…

  231. Why are we so SCARE indeed…

  232. No thanks, I'll just ask some dude who has visited

  233. Someone give this person a Sun show, stat!

  234. Ezra, seing as he is basically a lobbyist for the CPC, figured the best way to sell the population on the idea of the oil sands is to label them as "ethical oil": the big oil producing countries are all ruled by tyrannical, oppressive regimes. But in Canada, we're awesome.

  235. "any promo is good promo… "

I usually hear that phrase just after the fire department leaves, and the news truck arrives at the petting zoo.

  236. Wait, are you the guy who did the soundtrack for the Sun News channel?

  237. Why don' t those people who wish to see Sun news create a drive in urging their Cable carriers to dump CBC and replace with Sun news as part of their basic package? Contact your TV and cable carriers or flood CRTC with letters for that matter.

Fistuck should be happy having SUN news as target and viable source for his writing and income. Democracy is great!

    • You don't actually watch CBC, do you Ariadne? You think some cheap tawdry amateurish piece of rightwing bigotted crap could replace a well established professional news network?

      • That is the beauty of democracy, you are free to watch CBC and tune off Sun News TV, as long as you do not expect others to pay for your own pleasure. Your posting of "Cheap , Tawdry, and amateurish piece of rightwing biggotted CRAP" is degrading and insulting to your own intelligence. Very intelligent Holly Schtick! Do you have some more of that from "whateverdictionary" of yours? I love to hear you RANT, this is a free country your ranting is quite welcome! If you open your own RANT TV, I would probably be one of your viewers too.

        • And where do you get off trying to censor CBC?

          • You are not very intelligent are you? Censor CBC? You are the first one who actually raise that up. CBC is free to continue their bias reporting, just as you are free to watch it. In fact you and the others are very welcome to watch it and finance it. That is what democracy means, freedom of choice, you are free to watch CBC 24 hrs. a day, just do not force us to watch it with you.

          • You don't have the wits to understand it anyway.

          • That is the best you can come up with? Go back to your drawing table, think some more, and give it your best shot next time. Good Luck with your thinking cap!

          • What happened, Ariadne? Did the heartless cast of 'Heartland' come to your sectional, put a long gun to your head and force you to watch that tripe? Traumatic, indeed. A little Charles Adler'll get you over, hon.

        • It's kind of sad that is what you think democracy is.

          • Ariadne clearly isn't the brightest bulb in the chandelier. Anyone who has actually witnessed a Sun News broadcast would have to comment on the miserable quality of the commentary. Have any of their commentators graduated from an educational institution of ANY kind? Stupid, and stupid on top of that.

          • Well, Levant managed to become a lawyer. But they probably don't teach media studies in law school.

          • If your comment is what represents the brightest bulb in the chandelier, it just shows how dull has Canadian chandelier has become even after so many years of constant CBC spoon feeding and tax payer funding.

Your comment about quality of commentary is actually a valid criticism; after all you are entitled to have your opinion as I am too. But to denigrate educational achievements of others, just because you disagree with them, is beyond stupidity. But who am I, the dumbest bulb of the chandelier, to criticize such "superior" thinking person (?).

          • Your writing makes my head hurt =(

          • Glad to be of service! Hopefully it managed to crack a tiny opening in such narrow minded skull of yours!

          • You are not in the middle east anymore, grow up!

  239. Well, you are a partisan and I`m sure the folks at Sun TV know that you are not their target audience, so get over it and go watch some taxpayer-funded TV.

  240. I did watch it, Jenahlin, for three and a half hours last night, before I finally switched to the hockey game.

"Brandon" is not far off the mark at all.

  241. The partisans ARE their target audience. Both sides, really. How many folks listen to beck and Limbaugh and watch Bill OReilly down south that aren't conservative? Lots. Why? Because they're fun to mock. The smart marketers know their audience.

  242. I did watch it, Jenahlin, for three and a half hours last night, before I finally switched to the hockey game.

"Brandon" is not far off the mark at all.

  243. In that proo where Ezra promises that he hasn't even started or something… is his clown make-up smudged or what? I hope the Quebecor attorneys have eaten their defamation Wheaties.

I didn't hear any Brazilian music though, so that was a let down.

    • One should attack and criticize ideas and point of views instead of make ups, dresses, and looks. It reflects very low on one's IQ, if priorities in attacking are inconsequentials like looks – only BULLIES do that. Give it your best critical thinking next time!

      • Ariadne, you sound like you want to watch fine CBC tv shows…. but from the 50s: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FVz3zqlfhj4

Production values matter and so do makeup and all the rest. Otherwise people just think it's crap and change the channel.

  245. "Coming after Adler, the Guy with the Snake on His Face".

  246. Jenahlin –

  247. You mean for not bieng liberal enough idiot. I wont deny it, Sun TV has a conservative bias, but almost every other network is for left biased… Come on lets be fair.

  248. Disgusting verbiage.

  249. The background music was Brazilian — so hey, it was that Antonio Nobrega guy? If he's such a successful musician, why is he involved with SUN news?

  250. Cuz he's a doctor of loooove.

  251. You don't actually watch CBC, do you Ariadne? You think some cheap tawdry amateurish piece of rightwing bigotted crap could replace a well established professional news network?

  252. Now I understand why you disrespected our national anthem by talking through it, you're actually Brazilian. Better not let your new network find out… They only hire people who are as Canadian as I am.

Nice dance video by the way.

  253. That is the beauty of democracy, you are free to watch CBC and tune off Sun News TV, as long as you do not expect others to pay for your own pleasure. 254. And where do you get off trying to censor CBC?

  255. My gosh, look at all the insidious sarcasm just dripping all over this blogpost. It's just so insidious! And sarcastic!

  256. You are not very intelligent are you? Censor CBC? You are the first one who actually raise that up. CBC is free to continue their bias reporting, just as you are free to watch it. 257. The most surprising thing in all of this is the Imam that got riled up about Ezra Levant's latest flogging of the Danish cartoon situation is one Steve Rockwell. Hate to judge an Imam by his cover, but Steve Rockwell? Just how long has he been a Muslim, let alone an Imam?

These clowns deserve each other. The rosy-cheeked free speech championing cherub found an Imam with time on his hands and now they'll flame-war each other to half the share a re-run of "According to Jim" might get.

    Freedom!!!

  258. By making an issue on short skirs or whatever dresscodes the newscasters happen to be wearing, is really a dumbelldoo. Skirt envy is very lowering! Go Girls! Wear bikini next time for Fistuck envy!

    • Sadly, Levant's two-complaints-that-couldn't-even-get-past-an-investigation-to-a-hearing of fame are pretty much over.

    • Thank you for your comment, Borat.

      • You are very welcome Fishstuck! Glad to be of service to you and yours! I would love to see you in short skirt and probably bikini too!

        • I'm relieved to learn that "hs" were the letters missing from your previous mangling of Scott's name.

          • Hello Halo_Override! I wonder what letters would that be? Care to enlighten me? Is your pseudo name means what I thought it really means? Cool!

I thought you want to see him in short skirts or bikini too!

          • I have no idea what you think my username means. If you tell me, I'll answer you.

    • As oppose to Iranization of Canada?

      • Indeed, right now they are enforcing haircut styles to conform with those displayed in old barber shop windows. What's next, hanging homosexuals from lamp posts? This Iranization is truly alarming! Thanks for your vigilance!

      • Arachne,
        Iran is a conservative theocracy.

The closest thing to Iranization in Canadian politics would be a Harper majority. Is that your fear also?

        • It's only called "theocracy" when it's brown people, sheesh.

    • And your support goes to …. Iggy , an american educated buffoon who came back to be pm

  272. How long do you think before they start inventing "facts"? A day? A week? An hour?

    • You just started it!

    • Wait 'til the ratings are in.

    • Sun TV has always been at war with Eurasia.

      • I thought they just cut ribbon yesterday? Sun News are not brainwashing people to kill are they? Wow that is surely a record for a day old TV channel! You should run to CHRC and sue them!

        • Please read 1984 and then return to this post.

          • I thought my writing hurts your brain, why are you still reading it?

    • Do the grandiose claims on their promo count? If yes, then they already have.

  280. I can't imagine how Ezra Levant could stir such passion from those who do not agree with his views. What happens when he becomes a Canadian Icon just like Don Cherry? How many will drop dead out of pure envy? I pity those fools who pay lip service and empty platitude on democracy.

    • Drama clown cage match! Cherry vs. Levant!

      • Who needs expensive advertisements, when they could have you?

      • I would literally pay money to watch that fight.

        • Cherry gives Levant an elbow in the face! Levant responds with a hard and straight lawsuit!

    • "I pity those fools"

      You're Mr. T, aren't you? Wow, that's so cool.
