    Get ready to weep at the trailer for The Fault In Our Stars

    Why, man, he doth bestride the narrow world
    Like a Colossus, and we petty men
    Walk under his huge legs and peep about
    To find ourselves dishonourable graves.
    Men at some time are masters of their fates:
    The fault, dear Brutus, is not in our stars,
    But in ourselves, that we are underlings.

    Those lines, spoken by the tragic traitor Cassius in William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar, plumb the rage and the jealousy that fuel their decision to betray and murder the Roman emperor. How is he really different from you or I, he asks Brutus. Let’s not passively resign ourselves to fate: we can be more than what destiny may dictate.

    And so we have The Fault in Our Stars, the fourth novel by American author and YouTube ingenue John Green, taking its inspiration from his time as a student chaplain at a children’s hospital as well as those very lines, recasting them within the narrative of a 16-year-old girl battling a rare, stage-four cancer, certain of her fate, determined to hurt no one as she shuffles off this mortal coil—until, at a support group, she meets a boy whose own cancer is in remission and she falls in love. Unsurprisingly, the book—which was released in January 2012 and was The New York Times‘ No. 1 best-seller that same month—is being adapted into a film by 20th Century Fox, and in case that sentence failed to stir your emotions, it released a trailer that is guaranteed to make you feel some feelings (and assuage the concerns of the fans that the film would not be true to the novel).

    The movie comes out June 2014.
