Sitar master Ravi Shankar died Tuesday in San Diego at the age of 92.

The “godfather of world music,” as he was once called by George Harrison, inspired musicians in the East and West. The prime minister of India said he was a “national treasure and a global ambassador of India’s cultural heritage.”

Here is how he was being remembered in social media:

Remembering Ravi Shankar: ‘Godfather of world music’ dead at 92

  1. The Indians believe in reincarnation and so do I. He will be back.

    • Obviously his reincarnation can only happen by the efforts of new generation to excel in music. He does live by his disciples which is much better than reincarnation.

  2. Pandit Ravishankar was a truly global ambassador, a great human being. The donations to bangladesh at war times shows his human side. He had connected east to west, tradition to modernity in the world. May his soul rest in peace
