Jack Layton OnCampus

As the federal election takes shape, New Democrat Leader Jack Layton will visit Memorial University of Newfoundland tomorrow for a campus Town Hall meeting. While it appears that the NDP has not released a full platform at this point, there is a section on the NDP website that touts a number of education and training proposals that the New Dems put forward during the most recent session of Parliament.

Among other things, the NDP website notes that Layton’s party proposed “a Canada Post Secondary Education Act to bolster Canada’s college and university system—linking reliable federal funding to provincial commitments to improve both quality and affordability for students”, and also “launched a Fix Student Aid Campaign calling for a lower student loan interest rate, national needs-based grants, a national ombudsperson, and protections against predatory collections agencies”.

If you are on-campus here at Memorial University tomorrow (Sept. 12) and are just itching to ask Jack Layton a question, the event will begin at 12:30 p.m. in the Smallwood Centre (Room UC3018).
