McGill students to vote on motion condemning Israeli bombing

Thursday vote could make McGill students first in Canada to condemn bombing of Islamic University.

Students at McGill University will have the opportunity to vote for or against a motion to condemn the Israeli bombing of the Islamic University during recent fighting with Hamas.

The vote will occur during the Students’ Society of McGill University’s Winter General Assembly on Thursday.

Putting aside the debate about the motion itself; the decision by the organizers behind this motion to bring it to a vote of the General Assembly is proper.

A motion such as this is completely inappropriate for a student union council to pass on behalf of an entire student body; it is not inappropriate for a student body to decide to pass it themselves.
