Ontario Grade 10 students score 84 per cent on EQAO literacy tests

Grade 10 students across Ontario scored well on literacy tests conducted in March for the Education Quality and Accountability Office.More than 145,000 English-language Grade 10 students took the test and scored an 84 per cent success rate. The results were in line with testing levels in 2006 and 2007 and represented an increase of seven percentage points over the past five years.

EQAO says 88 per cent of girls who took the test were successful, as were 80 per cent of boys.

Among students learning English as a second language, the success rate reached 59 per cent this year, up from 42 per cent in 2003.

The provincial agency will release its next report on June 11 concerning secondary school literacy testing.
