This is a CIS football season to watch

This year’s CIS football season is less than a month old, but a year’s worth of history has already been packed in.

This year’s CIS football season is less than a month old, but a year’s worth of history has already been packed in.

Both the University of Toronto Varsity Blues and the Simon Fraser University Clan won their first games of the year. In both cases snapping major losing streaks of 49 and 25 games respectively.

This week, both these teams picked up their second win of the season. The Varsity Blues hammered the York University Lions in a shocking 58-7 win. Even more impressive was the victory of Clan over the University of Saskatchewan Huskies with a 27-17 win. The Huskies were ranked number 2 in the country going into weekend competition.

Daryl Stephenson, the running back for the University of Windsor Lancers, captured the CIS all-time running record this weekend in a game which he ran 115 yards.

The University of Manitoba Bisons were also upset this weekend; they were defeated by the University of British Columbia in a humilating 28-0 game.

The Saint Mary’s Huskies won another game. At least this means half of my prediction for the Vanier Cup stands. I’m predicting a Huskies vs. Huskies Vanier Cup with Saint Mary’s winning. However, it’s looking like the USask Huskies may not be able to defeat the Laval Rouge et Or.
