Officials say there’s no indication of a plot to target the U.S. itself
Though the FBI and Homeland Security Department say they have no indication that terrorists are targeting the U.S. or its citizens as part of a renewed threat in Europe, the U.S. government has issued a warning to Americans living in or traveling to Europe to be cautious because of possible terror plots there. The U.K. and Japan have issued similar warnings to their citizens abroad, noting the most susceptible countries include Britain, France and Germany. As of Monday morning, Canada had not issued a travel advisory, but made statements to the media warning people headed to Europe to be alert. Security officials say terrorists may be plotting attacks in Europe with assault weapons on public places, similar to the deadly 2008 shooting in Mumbai, India. But European officials have provided no details about specific targets.
