Ammunition for an election

Conservatives’ quarterly report card comes out today

Finance Minister Jim Flaherty is about to release a report on his government’s work to match budget targets. Releasing quarterly reports was part of a deal to get Liberal support for the federal budget, but the Liberals have said that they may trigger an election if the updates do not meet their approval. Parliament could dissolve as early as June 23rd, which is the next day the Liberals can make a no-confidence motion, if every MP from all three opposition parties votes against the government. Liberal Leader Michael Ignatieff is expected to review the document over the weekend—deciding whether to attempt to trigger an election.
