U.S group calls for killer whale’s death by stoning

An American religious group is calling for Tillikum—the five-ton killer whale that killed its SeaWorld trainer, Dawn Brancheau, last week in Orlando—to be stoned to death. On its website, the American Family Association writes: “Says the ancient civil code of Israel, ‘When an ox gores a man or woman to death, the ox shall be stoned, and its flesh shall not be eaten.'” Referring to the whale’s drowning of another trainer in 1991, the AFA adds: “If the counsel of the Judeo-Christian tradition had been followed, Tillikum would have been put out of everyone’s misery back in 1991.” This week, shows featuring Tillikum began again at SeaWorld. However, safety has been ramped up: trainers will no longer be permitted in the water with the whales. The AFA is also calling for the theme park’s head whale trainer to be stoned.

  1. This is beyond ridiculous: invoking ancient, irrelevant codes of behavior in 2010. This is no pitbull – it's a marine mammal which was kidnapped from his pod near Iceland when he was two years old (his mother was killed in the attack on his family) and has been forced to live in concrete tanks for twenty-eight years. To obtain his ration of fish he has to perform tricks and contribute semen for artificial insemination. His echolocation (biological sonar) doesn't work in the tanks, so he's living in a state of sensory deprivation. Wouldn' t you be a little stressed? He had thousands of peaceful interactions with trainers. They shouldn't put themselves in such vulnerable positions with huge predatory mammals: most trainers of other dangerous animals (lions, tigers, bears) don't.

    • "This is beyond ridiculous: invoking ancient, irrelevant codes of behavior in 2010". You just summed up religion in general.

Just when I thought religion couldn't demonstrate itself to be more ridiculous and pointless today, I find this gem of a story. I'll be chuckling all day..

      • Religious wackos. Unfortunately, there are many in the US and right here in our backyard. You don't have to look too far.

  2. It's an irrational animal, folks. You can't hold it responsible for its actions – it has no way of understanding a moral code.

    • And yet, strangely, it seems quite rational compared with the AFA.

  3. These individuals are part of such a progressive movement. Someone cue the applause.

If they believe that ancient law should be followed and enforced, we should also ensure that every criminal is hoisted onto a cross to die in front of citizens.

  4. They are insane. Their acceptance of bronze age myths is beyond explanation.

Christianity: …the belief that a cosmic Jewish Zombie who was his own father can make you live forever if you symbolically eat his flesh and telepathically tell him you accept him as your master, so he can remove an evil force from your soul that is present in humanity because a rib-woman was convinced by a talking snake to eat from a magical tree.

    • Gary, you are just as mis-informed as this group.

      • I have not been imformed of anything , I just have difficulty accepting fables and myths as facts. Its a very un Christian undertaking and its called thinking.

  5. Send the AFA to Afghanistan to slug it out with the taliban. When they're done stoning each other to death, the world might be better off.

  6. well if the news wants to quote wackos in america there would be much more interesting news every day, lucky we have something close to wackos, sarah palin and her gang

  7. could you even stone a whale to death if you wanted to?

    • good point, they should get these idiots to try to stone it under water

  8. Such nonsence, killer whales shouldn't even be in captivity in the first place.

  9. There is also a quote in the bible that says " he who is without sin cast the first stone" Trust me with this group the whale is safe.

  10. This is just another example of a group of irrational people whose minds are enslaved by religion. Does it really matter what religion?

    • Generalizations are always wrong, you know. Generally speaking.

  11. These people need to re-read the New Testament. There is no justification for stoning an Orca, even if it was possible. There is a definite intelligence shortage amongst this group.

  12. So he's an anti-Semitic whale. I suspected as much all along.

  13. its a freakin whale. you can't torture an animal because it hurt someone – it doesn't live by our moral codes (which stoning should never be part of anyway). maybe the whale just needs to be taken out of captivity? or at very least take it out of shows.

  14. aaaaaaaaaaaaaa I thought they wanted to get it stoned, wackos
