Hell’s Kitchen celebrity chef Gordon Ramsay, known for his perfectionism and ungentle ways with wanna-be cuisiniers, is suing a Montreal restaurant for nearly $3 million, according to the CBC.

In 2010, Ramsay was invited to become a partner of the Rôtisserie Laurier BBQ, a chic family restaurant in Montreal’s Outremont neighbourhood. The restaurant re-opened as the Laurier Gordon Ramsay in August 2011. But earlier this year the British chef’s name was removed from the front door, as the partners split.
Now Ramsay says he’s entitled to nearly $2.7 million in damages for the restaurant’s “repudiation of A License Agreement,” according to documents filed in the Quebec Superior Court. The lawsuit also seeks damages for defamation, and maintains Ramsay “performed all of his obligations.”
Ramsay was rarely seen in Montreal, let alone the rôtisserie, in the past two years.
According to the Montreal Gazette, Danny Lavy, one of the restaurant’s owners, is also suing Ramsay in an Illinois court for a–reportedly “huge”–amount of money. Lavy wouldn’t talk about the lawsuit, but did tell the newspaper: “I actually like Gordon and have nothing against him.”
