Ban the word “midget!”

Advocacy group petitions regulators to forbid the m-word on broadcast TV

The group Little People of America has asked the FCC to ban the use of the word “midget” on U.S. television, claiming that the word is just as bad as any racial epithet. The request was inspired by an episode of “Celebrity Apprentice” where Donald Trump’s contestants did a segment entitled “Jesse James and the Midgets.” The president of LPoA’s Long Island Chapter says that the continued acceptance of “midget” in popular culture is proof that we still need to make “social changes to take those offensive words out of our vocabulary.” Don’t tell him that the upcoming 70th anniversary Blu-Ray release of “The Wizard of Oz” still includes the credit for “The Singer Midgets.” Nobody wants to see the Munchkins banned.
