Big, middle-aged bird

Sesame Street kicks off its 40th season next week with a special appearance from Michelle Obama.

Other high-profile grownups, including Cameron Diaz, Jimmy Fallon, Ricky Gervais, Sarah Jessica Parker, Adam Sandler and Tiki Barber will follow. According to USA Today, (spoiler alert!) The First Lady plants a vegetable garden with Elmo and some children and encounters Big Bird, who asks if she is “part bird” because “You and I are both really tall.” And apparently the affection that generations feel for the show reaches all the way to the White House. When Obama came on set, the first thing she did was run to give Roscoe Orman, the actor who has played Gordon since 1974, a great big hug.
