Big storm, big chill as blizzard hits the Prairies

Blizzard-like conditions have police recommending people stay off the roads in many parts of southern and central Alberta.

RCMP closed westbound lanes of the Trans-Canada Highway near Strathmore after trucks and cars collided or skidded off of the road.

Highway 2 between Didsbury and Carstairs is blocked due to a multi-vehicle collision.

RCMP are also investigating a serious multi-vehicle crash east of Edmonton on the Yellowhead Highway.

The storm prompted airlines to cancel or delay dozens of flights out of Calgary International Airport and delay flights out of Edmonton.

The weather system is forecast to roll through parts of southwestern Saskatchewan.

  1. This is why I moved from Ontario to Alberta. Lots of jobs and the weather is always beautiful. I love snow from Sept till June. (Sarcasm)!
Honestly, I miss Ontario, Shorter winters, Long hot summers. Yes, Calgary and southern Alberta have Chinooks, Just to make us feel better, but explain the reverse Chinooks in the summer when it only gets to 9 or 10 degrees and frost in the morning, Uh!
