Canucks eliminated in OT loss to the Kings

Last year, fires burned in the streets after the Vancouver Canucks lost Game 7 of the Stanley Cup Finals to the Boston Bruins. This time around, there was no looting and mindless vandalism. Just disappointment.

“I feel bad for the Canucks,” team fan John Crema told the Vancouver Sun after the game, which the Canucks lost 2-1 in overtime to the Los Angeles Kings, the last-seeded team to make the playoffs in the NHL’s Western Conference. The loss eliminated the Canucks from the playoffs.

“No one envisioned this,” Canucks head coach Alain Vigneault told The Province after the loss, which saw the Presidents’ Trophy winners were knocked out in five games.

“To be honest with you it doesn’t matter,” said Daniel Sedin, quoted by The Province. “You lose in the seventh game of the final or you lose in five in the first round, it’s devastating.”

There’s always next year. How much of this year’s squad will remain by next year’s playoffs remains an open question.
