“6% ongoing increase for health transfers”

The Conservative Party has promised to continue the 6 per cent escalator in health care transfers to the provinces until 2014, but has not specified its commitments beyond that. Prime Minister Stephen Harper said, “We are planning on a six-per-cent ongoing increase for health transfers. We have been very consistent on this.” Conservative officials say the transfers will continue past 2014, although the 2011 budget, which did not get to a vote, said any increases past 2014 haven’t been legislated and are subject to change.

  1. Stephen Harper, April 9, 2011: "We are planning on a six-per-cent ongoing increase for health transfers. We have been very consistent on this."

Stephen Harper, February 5, 2008: "The way to manage this economy through difficult global times is not — as the Liberal Party would do — to drive us into deficit."

    • So what is it you want. A commitment to health care or a deficit. Liberals always want it both ways.

  2. I understand that a previous govt offloaded health costs onto provinces but, during the last 5 years, Harper Conservatives have not reversed any cuts. Obviously, more can be done by Canada to ensure quality health care for everyone, but it isn't being done.

This is an election threat everyone should be aware of!

    FYI

Mr. Harper served as President of the National Citizens Coalition from 1998 to 2002. National Citizens Coalition is a Canadian lobby group founded in 1967 to oppose the concept of a national health care system.

"National Citizens Coalition supports privatization”…(Wikipedia). During all of the decades of its existence, the National Citizens Coalition has campaigned against the Canada Health Act.

Stephen Harper's actions speak louder than his empty promises.

    • Don’t confuse government policy and practice with a private group which, by your own statement, he was not President of after 2002, ten years ago.
