Director Gus Van Sant really wants to direct Fifty Shades of Grey

Oscar-nomianted director Gus Van Sant has shot a sex scene with Magic Mike star Alex Pettyfer in a bid to direct the film adaptation of the erotic bestseller Fifty Shades of Grey.

According to The Wrap, Van Sant, who was nominated for Best Director in 1998 for Good Will Hunting and 10 years later for Milk, chose to film the scene when 21-year old college grad Anastasia “Ana” Steele loses her virginity to the wealthy and handsome entrepreneur Christian Grey, who happens to be really into bondage and sadomasochism and who almost made Ana sign a a non-disclosure agreement before having sex.

Insiders stressed to The Wrap that Pettyfer played Grey only for Van Sant’s shoot and has not been cast in the film. They were also unable to confirm who will be cast as Ana. “Universal and Focus have declined to comment on any list stories, long or short, though a Universal spokesperson said that the studio isn’t out to directors or actors, nor have they commissioned any test reels. WME has also declined comment.”

That means that Van Sant shot the test tape on his own volition and “may indicate how badly he wants the coveted assignments,” says The Wrap.
