Experts look at ending the common cold

Landmark discovery could create new drugs to finally beat it

Experts have long thought that antibodies could only fight viral infections by blocking or attacking viruses outside cold cells, but according to new work done by the Medical Research Council, antibodies can go into cells and fight viruses from within, the BBC reports. It will take yars of testing to find new therapies, and the pathway they’ve found won’t work on all virsues, but still, scientists say this might help create new drugs to beat illnesses like the common cold. The new discovery changes the way we think about immunity to viral diseases, which are mankind’s biggest killer, and include the common cold, “winter vomiting” and gastroenteritis.
