Federal judge rejects Greens’ challenge

Party is fighting to have Elizabeth May in leaders’ debates

A Federal Court judge has refused to hear the Green party’s legal arguments as to why leader Elizabeth May should participate in the federal leaders’ debates, the CBC reports. The party’s lawyer and a lawyer for the broadcast consortium were in court Tuesday arguing about whether to rush the case so May can be heard before the debates next week. (English-language debates are next Tuesday, and French-language on Thursday.) The party argued that excluding it from the debate relegates it to the fringes, even though it garnered almost one million votes. A lawyer for the broadcast consortium said the government and court can’t tell the media what to do.
