GG’s husband denies asking Queen to stay in hotel

Lafond calls remarks “insulting and ill-intentioned”

We reported this morning that the Governor General’s husband raised some eyebrows in Ottawa after the Toronto Sun reported that Jean-Daniel Lafond had requested the royal couple stay in a hotel, rather than in Rideau Hall, the official residence of the crown. “I… vehemently deny the insulting and ill-intentioned remarks,” Lafond said in a written statement Wednesday afternoon. “The current allegations are completely unfounded, given that we warmly welcomed Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh right before we left Canada for our visit to China, and wished them not only a wonderful visit to the country, but also a lovely stay at Rideau Hall.”

  1. When the report quotes "unnamed sources", one has to wonder if the individuals involved have an axe to grind against the current GG. I wonder if the individual involved has a first name that starts with "S"?

  2. Remember, we're talking a Toronto Sun writer here so allowances must be made for blowhard inept regard for journalistic guidelines.
