Second NHL group courts Hamilton

Steeltown mayor will hear a bid to relocate the Atlanta Thrashers

The rumour mill is buzzing in Hamilton, Ont., as the city’s mayor announces there is another NHL team interested in moving to Steeltown. Mayor Fred Eisenberger plans to meet with a Vancouver-based group—believed to be headed by developer Tom Gaglardi—this week, about relocating the Atlanta Thrashers to the city’s Copps Coliseum by 2010. This comes on the heels of RIM co-founder Jim Balsillie’s $212.5 million-bid to bring the Phoenix Coyotes to the same city and arena. There is speculation that as many as five groups are looking to relocate NHL teams to Southern Ontario.
