Updated: Three people treated for hypothermia after rescue chopper goes down in North

ARVIAT, Nunavut – Nunavut RCMP say three people in a rescue helicopter that crashed in Hudson Bay only need to be treated for hypothermia.

Police say it was originally feared that the three on board were seriously injured, but that turned out not to be the case.

The chopper went down shortly after plucking two stranded seal hunters from the ice off the west shore of Hudson Bay.

A family member says Joe Karetak and his son Joe Jr. were the two hunters on board.

They had been out on the ice since Tuesday.

Police say the three are being looked after in Arviat (AHR’-vee-aht), Nunavut.
