ICC to investigate Gadhafi for war crimes

Pro-Gadhafi forces launch attacks on rebel-held cities

The International Criminal Court’s chief prosecutor, Luis Moreno-Ocampo, says he will investigate Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi and his key aides for alleged crimes against humanity. Speaking from The Hague, the Netherlands on Thursday, Mareno-Ocampo announced an investigation into claims that Gadhafi’s security forces have committed war crimes in attacking peaceful protesters during the ongoing Libyan uprising. “We have identified some individuals with de facto or formal authority, who have authority over the security forces,” said Mareno-Ocampo, “they are Moammar Gadhafi, his inner circle, including some of his sons.” He also claimed there would be no impunity and that opposition forces would be investigated as well. Meanwhile, pro-Gadhafi forces have launched fresh warplane attacks on the rebel-held cities of Ajdabiya and Brega, killing 10 civilians.
