The bombings that rocked Boston’s Boylston Street earlier this week were contained to just a few city blocks, but the catastrophe’s aftermath has consumed the entire city. As two suspects, Dzhokhar and Tamerlan Tzarnaev, remained on the loose, Bostonians from all corners were pulled into the increasingly chaotic manhunt. The madness culminated in a carjacking, a high-speed chase, a gun battle, and a continued search for Dzhokhar. Massachusetts Governor Deval Patrick asked all city residents to stay indoors, under a voluntary “shelter in place” order. Our map shows you just how widely the Boston area was jarred by the marathon bombings.

LEGEND: Stars mark the location of the bombings. Numbered pins trace the events of April 18. Red dots trace the footprint of the Tzarnaev brothers. Binoculars feature eery images of a deserted Boston.
