Jimmy Carter called in to help

Kidnapped Israeli soldier a roadblack to peace negotiations with the Palestinians

The family of kidnapped Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit has enlisted the help of Jimmy Carter, the former US President, to get him freed. Shalit was snatched on the Gaza border on June 26, 2005, and is believed to still be a prisoner of Hamas. His fate continues to be a major issue in Israel, and a roadblock to any peace negotiations with the Palestinians.
