It’s nicer than you might think…
Think “lifeboat” and most of us picture an open fishing dory sort of thing, painted white with a couple of creaking oars pulling away from the sinking vessel. But when Captain Richard Phillips was rescued by Navy Seals Sunday after five days in a lifeboat launched from his hijacked ship, it left many people wondering what sort of craft they’d been drifting in. Turns it was a serious, enclosed life pod, painted international orange, kind of roomy, and stocked with supplies—this web site lists 31—that included emergency food rations, a jack-knife, and one set of fishing tackle, and other luxury survival gear.
