Lack of sleep leads to early death: study

Less than six hours per night can be dangerous

In a new study that looked at the relationship between sleep and mortality, UK and Italian researchers found that getting less than six hours of sleep a night can lead to an early death. People who regularly got this amount of sleep were 12 per cent more likely to die over a 25-year period than those who got six to eight hours. An association was also found between sleeping for more than nine hours and an early death, although getting so much sleep could be a sign of other health problems. The study was based on 1.5 million people in 16 previous studies.
