Liberals give Quebec candidate the boot

André Forbes expelled over past comments about aboriginals

In a statement Wednesday, Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff announced that Quebec candidate André Forbes has had his candidacy revoked. “Mr. Forbes has been informed that he is no longer a candidate for the Liberal Party of Canada,” he said. “Mr. Forbes’ comments have no place within the Liberal Party of Canada.” At issue were comments Mr. Forbes made in March 2002 in Quebec City’s Le Soleil newspaper. “We all know that the aboriginals will not keep their jobs,” he said. “I have worked for many years for Gulf Paper of Clarke City, which closed in 1968. Many Montagnais worked there. I only remember one who did a good job. There must have been others hard-working among them, but I don’t recall one name.” Mr. Forbes, who is Métis and a well-known activist for Metis rights in Quebec, was serving as the president of an association for the rights of white people at the time.

Liberals give Quebec candidate the boot

  1. The first I heard of this guy earlier today, it seemed he was sacked for wondering aloud why Canadian taxpayers shell out so much money to a particular group of Canadians, with so meaningless, even destructive, an effect. And I thought it was unfair that he should be sacked for speaking the truth. He had struck me a bit as an ANTI-racist, decrying the special status afforded a group of people just because of the particular wombs from which they were expelled. A victim caught up in the PC insanity.

But he is actually a vile racist. Too bad they didn't catch this in the vetting. Too bad he was dishonest when he filled out the questionnaire (assuming he witheld these details). Good on them for dumping him.

  3. Seeing as Mr. Forbes is not running for the Conservatives or can't be linked to the PMO this story will quickly and predictably disappear. Now if Mr. Forbes could in any way be linked to the Conservatives this story would be on all the front pages and it would be the lead on CTV and CBC, Glowball etc. guilt by association, only if it can be linked to the Conservatives. As Mr. Forbes is a racist running for the Liberals there is no need for the media to feign outrage or partake in hysterical "reporting". The media are already spinning this story as "nothing to see here folks", the only reason this gentlemen was a Liberal candidate was because of the unexpected rush for an election… conveniently ignoring that it was the Liberals, Separatists and NDP that forced the election and that Mr. Forbes was selected as a Liberal candidate back in 2009.

  5. This happened to Preston Manning in 1993. He promptly kicked them out of the party (I believe there were two candidates in Toronto with white supremacist links) but the media seized on it as "proof" that the Reform Party was the home of racists and other extremists. Of course, when it happens to the Liberals, they are to be commended for their "quick action" in removing the candidates.

  7. Notice the focus of this story is not about the comments,

but Iggy jumping to the rescue in letting him go?

Juxtapose this to the myriad of other "gotcha" stories about former Conservatives who aren't even involved in this election and how this reflects badly on Harper.

The most corrupt left leaning "journalists" in a generation are now upon us. Under the guise of providing impartial facts or "news" they propagandize for the "correct" party.

    The scandal of our generation.

  9. Ignatieff promptly dumps an MP for comments
and Harper keeps lying and won't fire any of his staff for corruption?
what the heck is going on here?

    • "…won't fire any of his staff for corruption?"

Carsen was sacked awhile ago and Harper personally called the RCMP to investigate him.

I'd put this issue on the same level as Carsen. Two losers with storied pasts that their respective parties should have been aware of. Both issues are distractions.

  11. Oh,

and it's not just "comments" made.

He was the….get this……..the FOUNDER OF A WHITE SUPREMISTS ORGANIZATION.

And apparently it was well known.

Liberals have white supremist leaders in their fold?

The liberals and their friends in the media say this is no big deal.

    How very telling.

  13. I predict the magic Liberal media fairy will come around and sprinkle some magic Liberal fairy dust and make this story disappear.

  16. The press is generally loath to report things that don't fit into the prescribed narrative they work so hard to establish.

  17. Absolutely wrong decision. Comment made in 2002! Have to look at its context…and how many years ago said….he said he was speaking from experience/first hand knowledge..and he is part of that culture (i.e. wasn't being racist). Is what he said stupid…absolutely…should it have gotten him kicked out…I personally don't think so. We have become such a politically correct society and 'the truth' (if in this case what he said was what he saw..and why would he make it up) is used against those who speak it. Under the circumstances may have been a very brave and/or foolish thing to do. He's suffering the consequences now for something he said 9 years ago!

  19. I remembered many liberals and their supporters have been trying to scare voters away by accusing conservatives due to those "perceive" attitudes. Ironic finding the real boogeymen inside their mirrors.
