Memory loss caused by marijuana

Brain’s natural chemistry affected

In a recent study published in Nature Neuroscience, scientists identified the brain protein that is affected by marijuana use and responsible for memory loss. THC, the main chemical compound in weed, interferes with the brain’s natural protein synthesis machinery. Long term studies done on mice showed that the protein synthesis was altered by THC and correlated with long-term memory deficits.

  5. I am not sure that they can immediately correlate these studies with long term memory conditions. The brain is far too complicated and there are too many things that could affect different parts of it. The best thing that we could do for ourselves right now is to try and prolong our memory for as long as we can. All it takes is a few exercises and brain challenges to keep it active and healthy.

  6. A recent study at Ohio State University says that cannabis use actually may help prevent Alzheimer's Disease and dementia. They also found that cannabis use reduces inflammation of the brain and allows new neurons to grow, even in the elderly. The research implies that if dementia runs in your family it would probably be a good idea to take a hit a day of marijuana to prevent dementia or Alzheimers.
