Mexican prison suitcase escape foiled

Prisoner’s girlfriend fails to wheel him out in her luggage

An inmate tried to make a break from a Mexican jail in a suitcase this week. Juan Ramirez Tijerina crawled into his 19-year-old girlfriend’s luggage during a conjugal visit, but guards noticed her acting nervously and unpacked her bag, revealing him crammed inside. Tijerina was serving a 20-year sentence at the Chetumal jail following a 2007 conviction for illegal weapons possession. Charges are now pending against his girlfriend, who was arrested. This is the second time this year someone been caught in an awkward position in some luggage: in Spain, a man was found wedged in a suitcase in an alleged attempt to steal from others’ suitcases.
