This week, the Catholic church slammed New Moon, the latest installment in the Twilight series, calling it “nothing more than a moral vacuum with a deviant message.” In particular, Church spokeman Monsignor Franco Perazzolo attacked the film for its occult imagery, describing New Moon’s many vampires and werewolves as a “moral void more dangerous than any deviant message.” The criticism of Twilight follows similar anti-pop culture crusades by the Church in recent years, such as its condemnations of the Harry Potter series, which allegedly glorifies witchcraft, and the “anti-Christian” bent of Halloween celebrations.
