Updated: Four people dead after car crashes into river

TRACADIE-SHEILA, N.B. – RCMP in northern New Brunswick say the bodies of three men and a teenaged girl have been recovered after their vehicle plunged into a river early today.

RCMP Cpl. Chantal Farrah says the crash happened around 1 a.m., when a vehicle carrying four people — ages 17, 18, 19, and 20 — lost control while driving on Route 370 near Tracadie-Sheila, about 70 kilometres northeast of Miramichi.

Farrah says the vehicle lost control on a dirt road in a remote area while trying to go uphill and slipped off the road and into the Tracadie River.

A news release says the submerged vehicle was recovered shortly after 3 p.m. and all four bodies were discovered inside.

The Mounties say the names are not being released at this time pending the notification of family.

Police say road conditions were slippery at the time of the crash.
