Paul Martin, Rick Hillier among Order of Canada appointments

Sixty-six Canadians honoured for their service to the nation in a wide range of fields

Governor General David Johnston named 66 appointments to the Order of Canada on Friday, the Globe and Mail reports. Among them are former prime minister Paul Martin, and gen. Rick Hillier (ret’d.), the former head of Canada’s armed forces. Martin was the sole appointee to be named a Companion, the order’s first rank, while Hillier was among 28 Canadians appointed Officers, the second-highest rank. Thirty-seven Canadians were named Companions. Among those named are broadcaster and author Stuart Maclean, mezzo-soprano Catherine Robbin, dancer and choreographer Miriam Adams, hockey coach Scotty Bowman, artist Charles Pachter, television host Brian Williams, and James Bartleman, the first aboriginal lieutenant governor of Ontario. • hey censers………….how does this crap get to stay posted?????

      • You do know the difference between censer(s) and censor(s)? If not, you really should look it up.

  2. Paul Martin… they must be joking?

    • Taken from the Order of Canada website http://www.gg.ca/document.aspx?id=72):

“Established in 1967 by Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, the Order of
Canada is the centrepiece of Canada’s honours system and recognizes a
lifetime of outstanding achievement, dedication to the community and
service to the nation. The Order recognizes people in all sectors of
Canadian society. Their contributions are varied, yet they have all
enriched the lives of others and made a difference to this country. The
Order of Canada’s motto is DESIDERANTES MELIOREM PATRIAM (They desire a
      better country).”

Sounds like this would fit for the long-time finance minister who slayed the deficit and helped bring down the debt, the prime minister who legalized SSM, and the citizen who has advocated for better treatment of our First Nations brothers and sisters.

      • An intelligent, factual response, well done Alex Nixon. Maybe you should be the next liberal prime minister.
Still not a believer, but well done.

    • D’accord! What a nonsense.

  3. How can anyone nominate a lying sack of shit like Paul Martin to the order of Canada

  4. Congratulations to all 66….well done.
