Pope Benedict XVI: ‘The Lord is calling me to climb onto the mountain’

Thousands gather in St. Peter’s Square for pope’s final blessing

Thousands of worshippers gathered in St. Peter’s Square this morning for Pope Benedict XVI’s final public blessing.

“We thank God for the sun he has given us,” Benedict said as the clouds cleared during his appearance.

The Pope, who will vacate the papacy on Feb. 28, said he is not abandoning the church. “The Lord is calling me to climb onto the mountain, to dedicate myself even more to prayer and meditation,” he told the crowd. “If God asks this of me, it is precisely because I can continue to serve her with the same dedication and the same love I have shown so far.”

Pope Benedict XVI: ‘The Lord is calling me to climb onto the mountain’

  1. He referred to God as a .??

    • I thought that was interesting wording too.

He probably meant ‘mother church’, but it’s unlike a pope to make that kind of mistake.

Maybe that was actually the 3rd secret of Fatima….the one that so upset the last pope. LOL

    • Translation error?

  2. Regarding the 3rd Secret of Fatima, maybe it’s about this pope and his efforts to reveal truths about sexual abuse within the church: The Vatican City is the “big city in half ruins”, the “Holy Father” is the pope, “trembling with halting step and afflicted with pain & sorrow”, the Catholic priests who perpetrated the crimes and have caused the pope such pain are the “group of soldiers” who “fired” upon him in an effort to conceal the truth and who “killed” him or at least caused him to have to step down; the other clergy, church leaders & laypersons (investigative police officers and others who knew and did not act) who will “die” in “the same way” (or for the same reason i.e. related to the abuses) for having hidden the sins of abuse, perpetrated for so long against the victims, or martyrs” – both dead and alive, who will make their way to God. And, he does say he’s been called upon to “climb the mountain”; maybe the “her” he referred to is the virgin Mary.

Here is part of the text:

“… the Holy Father passed through a big city half in ruins and half trembling with halting step, afflicted with pain and sorrow, he prayed for the souls of the corpses he met on his way; having reached the top of the mountain, on his knees at the foot of the big Cross he was killed by a group of soldiers who fired bullets and arrows at him, and in the same way there died one after another the other Bishops, Priests, men and women Religious, and various lay people of different ranks and positions. Beneath the two arms of the Cross
there were two Angels each with a crystal aspersorium in his hand, in which they gathered up the blood of the Martyrs and with it sprinkled the souls that were making their way to God.”

    • Well this pope has spent most of his life covering up the sexual abuse, so I doubt that’s it. Plus it’s been known for some years now, and while it’s certainly chipping away at church membership it’s not the devastating hit that will ‘take out Rome’, as prophesied.

I expect it has to do with money. Vatican credit is currently not acceptable………it’s cash only. The concern is money-laundering …..although it’s not the only concern of course. We still don’t know why the Vatican banker was found hanging under the bridge in 1982….or whether it was suicide or murder.

Benedict has referred to the ‘mountain’ today though…and there have been other odd references lately…..’satan is loose in the Vatican’ and so on.

Only thing that surprises me is that the media isn’t aware enough of what’s going on.

      • Absolutely 100% correct..it is less a religion and more like a corporation.

        • Heh…yup. Vatican Inc.

      • many behaviours we undertake today casually can be classified as crime as and when politically required. In context these men were not criminal during those times. Its the later turn of events that make it so. Marriage is also a old superstition, but we still abide by it. many family men and women commited crimes. We have not disband it, Why do you have to systematically persecute and hate people of one religious order.

Cant you feel Jesus Love at all? Poor you, but I dont hate you.peace.

        • Hon…it’s bullshit. Start to finish.

Religion is a scam. ANY religion.

Jesus is a myth. Move on.

  3. We are indeed into the apocalyptic era. So, let us pray, then, to the TRIUNE God that He — through the college of cardinals — will give us the right pope to continue leading the Catholic Church. It doesn’t matter whether he is an African, Asian, American, or European, as some people speculate. The important thing is that he is the “right pope” who faithfully holds the “right Catholic principles” in/for leading the flock back to Christ, to God, and not otherwise. The Church is leading the flock towards Christ, God, but humanistic principles have drawn many of the flock to follow the other way around. Christ shepherds the souls of His people, but thieves of souls come and steal many of them. So, let us pray that the next pope to lead the Catholic Church will be the right one, who, like the Master, Jesus Christ, loves and works for the salvation of souls.

    • Bronze age superstitious nonsense….give your head a shake.

      • Well said EmilyOne….if it was all so God inspired..why do we have the problem of horrendous abuse among religions? That is the very worst deceit that the religious leaders have perpetrated ..and with the knowledge of the ‘Church’.
The higher ups answer?..move ’em to another parish instead of charging them through the court system as any other pedophile. The best religion is NOT man made! Above all do no harm.

        • …’An it harm no one, do as you will’

          • Yep!!!

          • Kay….never met a W before. Welcome aboard!

          • Actually..Olde..as in pre W

          • Fantastic!

I always thought the recent W crowd was the Coles notes version. Or W For Dummies or something similar.

  4. dear people,

Jesus loves you-christian-gay or atheist or Thief-why this hatred-Jesus loves you,
So peace and no more hatred.

  5. Jesus isn’t a myth. He was a real person. If you want to deny it, fine. You can continue to go through life deciding that whatever is best for Emily must be right. The fact that you mock the church and its followers just shows how questioning you truly are about your lack of faith. That’s fine! The church has withstood persecution by the Romans, Muslim leaders in the middle east, Nazis(who killed both protestant and catholic clergy and shut down churches), and the Communists(who destroyed churches and murdered clergy). It can survive one more person like you wishing its demise.

    • Um….excuse me there Tonto….but your belief is only that. Your belief.

It has nothing to do with reality.

Jesus didn’t exist. And the church has been a scam operation from day one.

You wanna be gullible that’s up to you. Don’t try to drag the rest of us into it.

There are over a billion atheists in the world….live with it.

        • LOL you’re always here commenting on it.

  6. The Nazis killed clergy(read up on the protestant martyr Diedrich Bonhoffer). They tried to take prayer out of schools. Also, they tried to undermine the traditional family by having children put devotion to Hitler and the state ahead of the family. In addition, the Nazis implemented very strict gun control measures and support the aborting of desirables. Amazing how much Emily and her crew have in common with them.

    • Hitler was a devout catholic, and hated atheists.

I know you want to palm him off on us….but he was one of yours. Sorry.

PS Hitler eliminated the strict gun control laws of the time….ferchrissakes read some history

    • I am for taking secular prayer out of schools..or, failing that..put ALL prayers in schools. Take your pick. That does NOT make me a Nazi, it makes for common sense.
My SPIRITUALISM may not be your cup of tea..but secular religion does NOT fit all, nor does it make sense for everybody.
You have to choose your own concept of a Creator..one size does not fit all. My concept is not religious..it is Spiritualism.
All is a belief system..nothing more or less.
      Anyway Churchill..when in doubt…bluster on!

  7. So, the CEO of the oldest and most successful business venture the world has ever seen, I speak of course of the Pope, has decided to retire. We haven’t had a CEO of the
Roman Catholic Church Corp. (RCCC) do that for almost six hundred years; and at
this time when the advertising blitz currently underway by RCCC appears to indicate a serious downturn in the company’s profitability. It seems possible the business arrangement between Kings, Lords, Barons and such, and the RCCC is no longer what it once was. I speak of course when the RCCC and the aristocracy tithed the hoi polio 10% of their gross income. Of course there was always the problem of financing the pathetic petty wars undertaken by the, Kings, Lords, Barons, in their never ending efforts to increase their power.

As Christians were not allowed to lend money and charge interest, the Jews provided the cash and charged the interest on the loans. The Jews, who were not allowed to own land, could however, charge interest on loans and as a result a very convenient system came into play inasmuch as the Kings, Lords, Barons, and such, borrowed money from the Jews, and then, when the time came for repayment, got the RCCC to stir up hatred for the Jews for ‘killing Jesus’; the Jews were then murdered or driven from the country, all in all a very ingenious ploy. Payment for the RCCC came in the continuance of the tithe and in the form of lands granted by the Kings, Lords, Barons and such.
But they were the good old days and they are long gone. The job of maintaining
profitability at acceptable levels for the RCCC must be very hard on today’s CEO’s, it must be so terribly wearing.
