Protesters look to occupy Bay Street

Demonstrators aim to mimic U.S. “Occupy Wall Street” protests

Canadian activists inspired by protests in New York are planning to converge on Toronto’s financial district on Saturday Oct. 15 before marching through the streets when the Toronto Stock Exchange opens on the Monday. Similar protests are being planned online for Halifax, Calgary, Montreal, Ottawa, Victoria and Nova Scotia. The demonstrators aim to mimic Americans who have been camped out near Wall Street for more than two weeks protesting a number of inchoate causes relating to the global financial system and corporations. 700 people were arrested on Saturday after demonstrators protested on the Brooklyn Bridge, bringing traffic to a standstill. The “Occupy Wall Street” movement has entered its third week, and organizers say the demonstrations will continue into the winter.

  1. Why am I always working when these protests are going on? Shucks !  yea I am working.  Paying exorbidant taxes to support these sacthel wearing I-Pad -Pod carrying Rodents Enough ! Secular progressives Enough . Let me eat cake !

    • So your working on Saturday? Sunday? Monday? Sucks to be you.

      • Refering to NY , NY . The mob down there . BTW clean up you mouth & attitude

        • WHAT’S YOUR PROBLEM??  DADDY FINGERING ANOTHER LADY?? FUCK OFF, PUFF!!!!

      • Yeah, but for 3/4’s of the day, you are paying him out of your taxes. Regardless as to whether or not you find value in what he does, or purchase his product.

That’s your socialist elite. They are above the poverty line and still crying for subsidies. When your average single mother can’t make enough on hourly wages to pay for the bus.

Welcome to Canada, it’s a welfare state. Big round of applause to corporate greed, fat paychecks, and non-sustainable industries!

      • Ya it’s called shift work.

    • First of all, to respond to the article, their message is NOT inchoate, they protesting the unjust and unsustainably high distribution of wealth among the top 1% of wealthy Americans.

Secondly, 75 cents, they are NOT freeloaders, and are NOT uneducated, they are standing up for YOUR rights, when you are obviously content to be oppressed from the comfort of your living room, so long as you can scrape together a few nickels to pay for your children’s dinner. So have some RESPECT for the individuals who are aware of incredible injustices we face, and are brave enough to stand up for those who are too ignorant to stand up for themselves.

      • KarL:

         Opressed? , Nickels? , Injustices ? , Brave ? Who you kidding ?
The worst you have expericenced is a bad download. Go to the Chinese , Indian, Irainan, Syrian  etc. Embassies . Complain there ! . Get off my streets !

Go to the Chinese ,The Indian ,the Irainan

        • seriously, get a life…you are useless.  don’t show up in demonstrations.  I will hack your computer, post your photos where you won’t like to see them – if you don’t shut the fuck up.

I am serious. this is not a fucking joke.

          • Chavez , Assad, Ahmadinejad, Castro, Putin =

Congrats Karl ! You are now a Threating Thug

          • Scab… get back to work!

    • You need to understand that working
people and the poor, who are bearing the brunt of the world economic depression,
DID not cause it, but we all know who did!
We need to shift the cost of this economic
depression off of the backs of these people and onto the ruthless financial
power brokers whose missteps caused this economic collapse. But what is really
happening; in capitals like Washington, London,
Paris, Berlin and Ottawa, governments are imposing policies of austerity on
      their workers and their poor!

      • What is wrong with you Seeker ? Stop blaming everyone ! You are the problem !
Stop voting for the Liberal Clowns that are now eating your lunch ! You put them in power ! its your Obama. Its you that thinks everyone deserves everying free . How is that war on Poverty going for you after 40 years ? You have been voting for the wrong guys.

You should have gone to the TEA Party Events if you are so concerened . You are in the wrong parade banging the wrong drum

        Good Luck in the camp

        • Good luck bailing out Canada with all your hard work… It’s going to be a nice fall for us all with the GDP to Debt ratio climbing.

Welcome to Canada, its a welfare state.

      • Look dipshit governments dont have any money, they get it ALL FROM THE TAX PAYER. THE TAX PAYERS FUND THE GOVERNMENT.EVERYONE IN THE GOVERNMENT IS FUCKING USELESS A PARASITIC WORM THAT CHOKES OUT THE LIFE OF THE PRODUCTIVE CLASS.

    • That’s the whole point, they need jobs, corporate greed leads to less jobs, higher turnover, fewer hours, more part time workers. And more taxes for you.

Let me know how your retirement works out for you when Canada cuts back on your pension.

      • James:
Be more like Steve Jobs. Hire people be a shining light not a blamer or burden.

BTW (taxes for me ?) I am a farmer so do not speak to me about hard work or hard times or taxes > I will take care of my family not you and not the government. So look at your I-Pad or I-phone and realize you have a choice and realize you are being used .

        • You are talking to the wrong guy.

I’ve been hauling ass for independent and small business all my life

I have none of those things.

You on the other hand are most likely a scab working in a non-unionized government subsidized welfare industry, or your postal worker. Take your pick.

Either way, you are a welfare case.

        • I can’t believe I was right.

What f’n buisness do you have voicing your opinion over poverty when you collect fat subsidies from tax payer dollars?

          Whose the burden!! WELFARE CASE!!!

  2. Good for  them.  Enough of  the avaricious  greed  and limitless larceny  of  the overstuffed corporate elite.  Long  overdue  for  a resurgence  of  real democracy.  Time to take the power back  from the corporate weasels before there is real blood on the street.

  3. “please protesters, I can’t say this enough: DO NOT MARCH. SIT DOWN or stand with linked arms. DO NOT MARCH. I have studied protests for the last fifty years — the ones that ended in state violence (they always win) are short and the MARCH. the ones that brought down regimes are LONG and STOP TRAFFIC and involve SITTING DOWN OR STANDING STILL WITH LINKED ARMS. They take patience.” – Naomi Wolf

    • Thank You for your insight. ALL of you who believe that you are oppressed or being taken advantage of by govt or business have volunteered to be in this system. Your SIN card shows that you agreed. You will not alter the system by protest, you will alter the system by no longer participating. Begin to understand who you are and what you have given up. Did you ever wonder why your Drivers Licence was an all capital name or why your bank accts and credit cards are all capitals. Read Blacks Law Dictionary which defines all capital name as a Corporation or “fictional entity”. Wwant to have a different system? then create a new one by first understanding what this one is. Know who you are. Know what you have done.

  4. I find it amusing that these so called protesters are against corporations, when most of us in Canada are owners of corporations, either directly, or indirectly. Have an RSP, pay into a pension through your employer, collect CPP? Guess what, you are the corporation. Very misguided.

  5. ATTN :THE GENERAL ASSEMBLY WILL BE HELD ATThe Great Hall, Hart House, UOFT. @ 5 PM . THIS FRIDAY.
