In what can best be described as a truly Canadian problem, some Saskatoon residents are very afraid for their wellbeing due to a giant icicle that is hanging precariously from the side of an apartment building.

The offending icicle began to grow early on in the winter when water from the apartment building roof — which does not have a downspout — began to freeze, and then it froze again and again and again, until it extended from the roof of the three-storey walk-up apartment building all the way to the ground below.

Residents in the next-door apartment building, which is less than three metres away, are concerned that the icicle will fall. “That thing weighs a lot. These walls are thin. It could come right through,” resident Henry Poitras told the Star Phoenix.

Lisa Tootoosis, who lives in a basement apartment in the building next to the icicle says she is also concerned. “If that thing falls off and comes through the building, I’m gonna become a Popsicle,” she told CBC News.

Firefighters issued a warning to the building managers. A manager told both CBC News and the Star Phoenix that they are going to have the icicle removed.
