TORONTO – Shoppers Drug Mart says it will stop playing Christmas music in its stores at midnight on Friday – at least for now.

Shoppers announced in a message on its Facebook page that it was suspending Christmas music until further notice following complaints from customers.

Spokeswoman Tammy Smitham says some customers had complained that it was too soon to be playing Christmas music in the stores.

She says Shoppers began playing Christmas music on Thursday, but some unhappy customers contacted them through Facebook and customer service.

Smitham says the Christmas music will be back, likely later in the month.

  1. I would rather have multiple root canals sans anaethesia than listen to x
mas music at anytime. But when u think about is its a drug store. eg:
    Xmas music causes pain
Pain can be relieved with analgesics.
    Shoppers sells life brand acetomenophen
So X mas music helps Shoppers profits

  2. Good for Shoppers Drug Mart for listening to their customers. Good for customers for speaking up. I have a rule at work that decorating will not be done until Dec 1 because my co-worker wants to put up Christmas stuff while taking down Halloween stuff.

  3. Good! Normally I never notice background music in a store, but at Xmas I do. It’s been way overdone all these years, and now it’s just irritating.

I shop online ….have done for ages now.

  4. Bah humbug! All tedious Xmas paraphernalia should be banned before Dec 1.

  5. Same with Home Depot in some places, and the worst, tackiest X-mas you could ever hear.

  6. Those who don’t like Christmas Music, please go to Saudi Arabia and listen to Terrorist Music. Get a life, people. We live in a country where people are trying to be too accommodating. Perhaps too accommodating towards some people, for our own good!

  7. Forget Christmas music. Let’s play some jihadi music. I hope you also pulled all Christmas merchandize from the shelves. Self-serving hypocrites. You need to move to Pakistan or Afghanistan. There is no place for you here, Shoppers. I have convinced at least 500 people (families) to stop shopping at the Islamic Store that you have become. Shame on you!
