Starbucks sued over hot tea

Customer allegedly suffered second-degree burns

Zeynep Inanli is suing Starbucks Corp after being served tea he says was “unreasonably hot, in containers which were not safe,” at a Manhattan Starbucks store, Reuters reports. Inanli allegedly suffered second degree burns, suffered “great physical pain and mental anguish,” and is seeking unspecified damage. This follows a well-known 1994 case in which a jury ordered McDonald’s Corp to pay $2.86 million to a New Mexico woman who said she scalded herself; the parties later settled.
