The Force is with Obama, says Mark Hamill

Actor Mark Hamill, best known for playing Luke Skywalker in the original Star Wars trilogy, has openly expressed his feelings about Mitt Romney. This summer at Comic-Con, he said the GOP Presidential candidate was “not actually human.”

More recently on October 4, Hamill tweeted this to his 144,725 followers:

Hamill shed light on his dark sentiments last night when he appeared on The Young Turks, a weeknight news and commentary program on Current TV. Drawing from his experiences as a high school debater, the 61-year-old actor said, “If you told things that weren’t true or just made things out of whole cloth, you were penalized. It’s too bad they don’t apply the same standards to presidential candidates as they do to high school students.”

Host Cenk Uygur asked Hamill to pick Star Wars characters most akin to U.S. political figures. When Uygur suggested that Dick Cheney could be Darth Vader, Hamill said he didn’t think that would be fair to Vader, who eventually redeemed himself at the end of Return of the Jedi by destroying the Emperor and thus bringing balance to the Force.

As for President Barack Obama? Sounds like Hamill thinks he’s America’s only hope: “Well, he’s very wise. He’s got sort of a cross between Obi-Wan and Yoda,” said Hamill. “I so revere him, I’m going to have to go with the Sir Alec Guinness character, Obi-Wan.”
