The Real Logo Scandal

Forget the Olympics. It seems the Cons have been brazenly ripping off the Royal Air Force since, well, forever. Same colours (almost) and everything. It’s a goddamn scandal, this is.

Seriously, though. Logogate? Is this how catty you’ve become, Hedy?

The Real Logo Scandal

  1. And yet here you, are commenting on the non-scandal.

    • because the non scandal is turning into a farce against those who proposed it was a "scandal"

Hate to say I told you so, that one side or the other would like major maroon's. With no proof that there was any interference and universal comments from independent commentators, the atheletes, the CoC and HBC saying there was no, none, nada, pas rien, zero, zilch influence this quickly turns into the farce it is.

And it now feeds the narrative that the Libs dont know what they are doing. Was this a war room operation? Was iggy a part of it, did he just let it happen, is he going to get control of this…..

It is now turning into one of these

  2. When I read the initial reports, I presumed that Fry was speaking with knowledge that the Conservatives had at least some input into the decision process. Silly is definitely the word.

    • it is really unbelievable. I wonder if this is indicative of what is to come in the campaign?

      • If the campaign happens…..it will be rather nihilistic in flavour…..

      • I fear it is. The Liberals are obviously looking for some easy-to-digest scandal that will catch the attention of the Canadian public, since the more complicated scandals the conservatives regularly engage in, such as in-and-out, repurposing public funds to campaign funds, and the multitude of lies Harper's party has provided, are simply not enough to get the Canadian public up in arms.

The problem we're having is that the primary thing on people's minds right now is their debt, and their jobs or lack thereof. Unfortunately, none of the parties have any idea how to handle this because the problem is bigger and deeper than anybody wants to acknowledge.

        • I'm pretty fiscally conservative, but the debt (and deficit) are not at all the problem you make it out to be. If the government holds increases in spending to 4% (higher than economic growth, I should note), the deficit will be eliminated in 6 years. No cuts, no taxes, nothing. What are the implications of a deficit of a few % of GDP for six years? Why are deficits bad?

Deficits are bad because they (arguably) drive up interest rates by crowding out private sector interest rates. Even if there is an effect (and it is something economists debate) it is small (if you are talking about small deficits). Moreover, it is not even entirely clear that the loss of growth is smaller than the impact of the stimulus (though Barro's recent work would suggest it is at least in the US).

The debt is much less of a problem. Unlike with people, the government doesn't have to pay off its debt. Most of the debt is held by people that own bonds. Bonds can simply be re-issued in perpetuity. Now, if debt was well over 100% of GDP (as it was in the mid-90's) that might be another story. This may be part of what drove Japan's "lost decade". At the end of 2008 our debt was 64% of GDP. It might hit 75% or so.

Moreover, surpluses are bad to. The notion that the government must run surpluses implies that spending (or cutting taxes) with that money has a lower social and economic benefit than using it to pay down debt. That simply isn't true. Canada's deficit as a % of GDP should probably revolve around 0 – sometimes in surplus, sometimes deficit.

          • Perhaps I wasn't clear. People are concerned with their personal debt, not the government debt.

I'm actually a big supporter of government deficit during difficult times and don't think it's a bad thing at all. I'm also a big supporter of governments running sizable surpluses during boom times to dampen things down and try to prepare for these difficult times.

  3. Liberals are grasping at straws. What's next? Are they going to demand that the Leafs change the colour of their jerseys because the blue looks to Conservative?

    What a pack of morons.

    • Actually, the morons are those who don't know the difference between "to" and "too"!

  4. Ever since they stopped burning crosses in Prince George poor Hedy has had nothing to do.

  5. No one mentioned the NDP – Charlie Angus on this? Actually, when I saw her in a scrum Hedy Fry said that the government should have been sensitive to how it looks and said she didn't know if they were involved ……….it's Angus who's claiming the political issue. But hey, let's make sure it's only the Liberals that are the bad people.

With all due respect folks to our Air Force and other military – the olympics is about ALL Canadians – plumbers, doctors, whatever you are.

  6. I thought the scandal was Macleans purloining the intellectual property of the RAF and the Cdn Tories for its website.

  7. It must truly be a sad day to be a liberal right now. I mean really folks this latest attempt by Hedy of getting some liberal press out there has not only back fired big time but made it so obvious as to the sheer desparation of the party and it's current torpedoing by it's own Quebec Lieutenant! I think it would pay for the LPT to re-think this old Dion habit of spending all their time and energy either trying to manufacture a pseudo-scandal or looking for one where none exist and then maybe they could look at actually criticizing what the gov't is doing in reality becuase as long as they focus on irrlelevant and quite frankly juvenile attempts such as this they only lose votes as can plainly be determined by a surface reading of any poll .. as it stand it is not only looking Sad for the LPT but trending down to Bad for the LPT!

    • Exactly. The Liberal Party is damaging its reputation by trying to discover a scandal under every maple leaf.

The Liberal Party's real problem will be when it finds a real scandal. The Canadian public will be so used to the Liberals crying wolfgate that they won't pay any attention.

      • …if you think that our tax dollars are being used as a blatant campaign tool is not a scandal then you should've
moved south & voted for W when he was active…the utter contempt shown for the canadian voters intelligence is
disgusting as is spreading all our money around in tory ridings…we all pay taxes & are entitled to have OUR money
fairly allotted to where it will do the most good…but what can you expect from a creep who offered a dying man a
million dollar bribe on his deathbed

  8. The logo looks more like The Montreal Canadiens logo to me!

  9. I mean the Olympic logo looks like the canadiens, not the conservatives

  10. Maybe the Liberals should assign Coderre to BC to get some long term MPs to step aside

  11. The Olympic logo looks like a maple leaf surrounded by a big C standing for Canada.
The Fiberals are grasping at straws for life support.
They are desperate to change the headlines away from Iffy failing to parachute the Liberals back into power while the Liberal polls are falling like a lead balloon.

    • Let's not start up that Fib vs. Con crap over here please.
