Four three people are dead after an apparent attempt to steal an armoured vehicle at the University of Alberta campus in Edmonton late last night. The Globe and Mail reports:

Three employees of a security armoured-car company were shot dead and another was fighting for his life in hospital after a night-time robbery at a cluster of bank machines downstairs from a student residence of Edmonton’s University of Alberta.

The shooting happened during the night between Thursday and Friday, at the HUB Mall, a combined shopping mall and student residence on the campus of the University of Alberta. (…)

A massive police operation was deployed on campus, including tactical-squad officers, canine units and homicide detectives. Police spokesman Scott Pattison says the suspect or suspects remain at large.

An earlier version of this story reported three, rather than four people had been killed. That story also referred to a Global News article that has since been removed. We regret the error.
