Tina Fey blasts mommy chat rooms and tells Taylor Swift to lighten up

Life imitates art this week for the 30 Rock star

Tina Fey is having some week. First, she defended herself against Taylor Swift who suggested that the creator of 30 Rock is headed to hell for her Mean Girl ways. And second, she lambasted a mommy chat room for having some of the “worst human behaviour” Fey has seen in her life.

In an excerpt from an interview with Vanity Fair published on March 5, Taylor Swift told journalist Nancy Jo Sales about a favourite quote that Katie Couric relayed to her:  “There’s a special place in hell for women who don’t help other women.” The singer was referencing a joke that Fey and co-host Amy Poehler made at the Golden Globes over Taylor’s “highly scrutinized love life.”

Poehler commented to The Hollywood Reporter that same day:

Aw, I feel bad if she was upset. I am a feminist, and she is a young and talented girl. That being said, I do agree I am going to hell. But for other reasons. Mostly boring tax stuff.

Fey commented to ET:

“If anyone was going to get mad at us, I thought it would be James Cameron. I did not see that one coming. It was a joke, it was a lighthearted joke.”

And then yesterday in an interview with US Weekly, Fey was asked about a scene in the last episode of 30 Rock–where Liz Lemon gets into a catfight with other moms in a chat room–and whether or not she visits mommy blogs in real life. Fey responded:

That was definitely built on experience with things I have seen. I have never . . . I don’t know how to post on any of those. So I promise you I have never posted. I have seen people pretending to be me post on Urban Baby. I had a friend call me and say, “Are you on Urban Baby?” I said no. I didn’t know what that was. I do think some of them – Urban Baby specifically – have some of the worst human behavior I’ve ever seen in my life. Terrible. There is no one running [those sites] or they would fix it.

For those not familiar with Urban Baby, which Buzzfeed says is “like Reddit for snooty New York City parents,” here is a list of 15 illuminating comments from a thread discussing social “striving” in the parenting community.
