Tories misquoted her to defend summit costs, AG says

Report on G8/G20 summits recycles quote praising Liberals post 9/11

Auditor General Sheila Fraser is alleging the Conservatives misused a quote by her in a report on the costs of the G8/G20 summits in Toronto last summer. The quote read: “We found that the processes and controls around that were very good, and that the monies were spent as they were intended to be spent.” The statement dates back to a CBC News interview in 2010, when Fraser was asked about security spending by a previous Liberal government after 9/11, and not in regards to the summits. In a scathing letter, Fraser writes: “The comments attributed to me in the [Conservative] report are completely unrelated to G8/G20 spending.”
