Visible minorities to become majority in Toronto, Vancouver

Statistics Canada predicts significant population shift by 2031

Canada is set to become even more of a cultural mosaic. According to Statistics Canada, by 2031, one-third of the country’s population will be a visible minority, with South Asian comprising the largest group. As the number of visible minorities grows to an estimated 14.4 million people, in some cities, they will, in fact, become the majority. In Vancouver and Toronto, for instance, where the proportion is predicted to increase to 63 and 69 per cent, white people will be in the minority. Meanwhile, in Montreal, visible minorities are expected to comprise 31 per cent of the population, more than double what it was in 2006.
