When Sarko met Bruni

New book details the “unexpected game of seduction between two wild beasts”

The French public are lapping up the salacious details of the love-at-first-sight meeting between President Sarkozy and future first lady Carla Bruni via Autobiographie non autorisée by Jacques Séguéla, the friend who invited them on a blind date to his home in November 2007. Séguéla details the “unexpected game of seduction between two wild beasts” that played out before his other dinner guests: Sarkozy challenged Bruni to kiss him on the lips, he mocked her former lover Mick Jagger’s “ridiculous calves,”  and proposed she be Marilyn Monroe to his JFK. In response, Bruni behaved like “the huntress Diana with velvet claws”, toying with the over-eager president and, using the informal “tu,” warned him that she knew of his reputation as a womaniser. Seven weeks later, they married.
