Will ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ tank in India?

Many local residents haven’t even heard of the award-winning film

Slumdog Millionaire, now an Oscar front-runner after winning four Golden Globes and making a killing at the box office, may not get the same reception for its upcoming release in India next week. The British-made film is set in the slums of Mumbai, but many local residents haven’t even heard of it. There’s also some concern about the country’s notoriously conservative censors. Slumdog distributors have created a Hindi-dubbed version to help it penetrate the mainstream.
