Women’s ski jumped added to Sochi Games

IOC decision ends years of legal wrangling

Women’s ski jumping will finally have a place at the 2014 Winter Games in Sochi Russia as the International Olympic Committee announced it had approved the sport on Wednesday. The approval brings to a close a years-long legal battle by women ski jumpers to compete at the Olympics. Also included among the events set to debut in Sochi are ski halfpipe, mixed relay in biathlon and team events in luge and figure skating. Leading up to the Vancouver Games, the IOC twice rejected calls to have women’s ski jumping added to the list of events. Women jumpers took the case to the Supreme Court, but ultimately lost their appeal.
