Patch work: Badges of honour for Canada’s space explorers

Every astronaut gets a special expedition patch when they go to space. Here’s a look at our astronauts’ patches

Each astronaut’s expedition patch has symbols meaningful to him or her, with everything from the stars for the six crew members on Julie Payette’s mission to the three on Chris Hadfield’s for his children. Here’s a look at Canadian astronauts’ personal mission patches, meant to remember their time in space. (Photographs by Roberto Caruso.)

  1. There are two “bugs” on this page, both related to Julie Payette’s badges. First, her STS-96 (1999) badge should be where STS-85 badge is located and vice versa as all other badges are in chronological order. Second, the caption for her second mission badge (STS-127) is incorrect as it is a duplicate of her 1st mission.
